Support the speedskating team!

Stephen Colbert is supporting the U.S. Speedskating team. Even if you don’t agree with him, it’s a worthy cause, no?

So is supporting the US Biathlon team and a dozen other teams. Why should I care what Stephen Colbert supports? Why did he choose that team over a dozen other worthy causes?

Yeah. Screw the rotten son of a bitch. Who the fuck does he think he is?

Same reason you chose US Biathlon?

Well, when you get your own show (The Telemark Remarks) you can ask its viewer(s) to kick in to support the American Olympic Skeeball team if that’s what you want.

Stephen’s “character” is the ultra-jingoistic America-lover. And proportionally, speed skating is the single category that yields the USA the most winter olympic medals.

Because the speed skating team lost its primary sponsor a few days ago.

I’m a huge Colbert fan, but I am removing the link from the OP. Quoting from the registration agreement:

I support Biathlon because I personally know some people on the team. I have no problem with supporting the Speedskating team, and learning that they just lost their major sponsor is important information to know.

My thoughts came out a bit more strident than I intended. I’ve seen people post in threads about cancer fundraising that they feel bad that certain types of (pardon the term) hip cancers get lots of funding leaving the less hip types struggling for funds. I was thinking that it’s fine for Colbert to support the SpeedSkating team but it’s likely that other, also deserving sports teams, will either lose out on general donations as a result, or simply not get anything from this effort.

In some ways it’s like Oprah plugging something on her show; it causes a backlash from similar things that were not plugged by Oprah. Is every Olympic team going to need to find some popular entertainer to champion their cause? It seems wrong to me somehow, but I can’t fault Colbert for doing what is clearly a good thing.

I didn’t even think of the registration agreement. I apoligize.
