The big hullabaloo about “mass hysteria” is a great overblown case of…mass hysteria! I don’t see people getting hysterical, do you? Its used as a cover for all sorts of nasty goings-on (e.g. child abuse, cult worship) and is an easy journalistic fall-back. Most thinking people I know would say that we live in a place and time of great apathy and passivity, not passion and hysteria.
Read “Psychic Dictatorship in the USA” by John Constantine for the real story behind the “mass hysteria” epidemic of the 1980s and how it was used to defend pedophiles in a handful of horrible child sexual cult abuse cases.
Now, multiple personality disorder, or dissociative disorder may have been over-diagnosed, as are many disorders, but to say that it doesn’t exist is a bit much. What else is going on when a schizophrenic talks to himself?! Put 2 and 2 together. Or does schizophrenia not exist either?
From the back cover of Psychic Dictatorship in the USA:
Alex [not John] Constantine is also the author of The Covert War Against Rock: What You Don’t Know About the Deaths of Jim Morrison, Tupac Shakur, Michael Hutchence, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Phil Ochs, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Virtual Government: CIA Mind Control Operations in America.
And remember, only tinfoil hats are effective against transmitted voices. Don’t be fooled by claims that aluminum foil will work just as well.
**** I don’t see people getting hysterical, do you? Its used as a cover for all sorts of nasty goings-on (e.g. child abuse, cult worship) ****
You seem to have it seriously backwards. Mass hysteria isn’t a cover for anything. It’s the cause of a lot of false charges of ritual child abuse, communism, witchcraft, etc.
Look at the Pepsi scare in the 80s (or was it early 90s). One syringe was found in a Pepsi can and “suddenly” it was everywhere. Cans with syringes were just everywhere. They were all frauds. Hysteria isn’t necessarily getting freaked out. For instance it could be knowing the answers for a test (by studying) and getting so worked up you forget them.
::Harold Hill:: Now one fine night they leave the pool hall
Headin’ for the dance at the Armory
Libertine men and scarlet women and ragtime
Shameless music that’ll grab your son, your daughter
into the arms of a jungle animal instinct- massteria!!
