Surf the Web on a Commore?! How????

I had someone tell me the other day that it’s posible to surf the Web on an old Commodore 64. Does anyone know how, or even do it themselves? I mean, I remember those old things, unless it’s hooked up to a TV you sure don’t get many differnt colors. (Heaven forbid you try it on a monochrome computer.)

But, more importantly wouldn’t the modem…well…melt? I mean, sure, it’s just data in the form of electrons, but still, wouldn’t it come in way too fast? Or, if you do it with one of those 2400 baud things (is that the fastest you can do on a C-64?), your speed is going to be so slow!

Would a C64 even understand TCP/IP?

Off hand , I would say that if you can load lynx , you can surf the web. No idea on the C-64 , if thats the model, the commodore 128 , i can believe.

Is it Fall already?

The C64 has a sizable hacking community. You can surf the web. And run a crude form of linux.

I thought the title was “Surf the Web on a commode?” Sorry.

Not only can you surf the web on one, you can run a webserver on one.

Bah. Running a webserver is easy. You can run one off of potatos, or lose it in a bowl of cheerios. Having an ethernet connection where the data rate is X times your bus speed, and being able to display 500k pages when you only have 64k of RAM, now that I find impressive.

Slashdot link for the still-curious.
