Why limit it to the ads sponsored by tobacco companies, though? NYQuits has no affiliation with them, and they do more to promote smoking than Joe Camel ever did. I used to have to change the channel when their ads came on. Also, they’re now telling 20-somethings that if they ever have a cigarette, they’re “smokers.” Funny thing is, to quit smoking, you have to think of yourself as a “non-smoker.” But, you know, NYQuits exists to get people to quit smoking. They can’t very well do that if no one smokes.
I saw some damn commercial last night whose moral was apparently “If you don’t smoke, aliens will capture you in their spaceship.” It was bizarre; some animated commercial that looks drawn by a four year old.
