There are a number of current Christian sects that claim they are The True Jews and the ‘’‘fake Jews’‘’ are actually Satan worshipers, the, Biblical, Synagogue of Satan.
Hell, the Mormons, literally, think they are Jews.
Most LDS members believe that Jews are God’s chosen people and they also believe that LDS Church members and Jews share a common and literal Israelite ancestry, an ancestry which was associated with an affinity for Jews. However, most LDS members also believe that God is perpetually punishing Jews for their part in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and they will not be forgiven until they are converted.
There was a dude named Herbert W Armstrong who asserted that modern Jews were all from 2 tribes that split off and the rest of us were from the other 10 tribes. He was kind of a freak, and his son was a real piece of work.

Really? I’m pretty sure I do, especially since he’s giving interviews and saying mean things about Trump.
Yeah. My immediate thought just reading the quote was “With a name like that what did you think Trump was going to do to you?”
I often think about this scene from Forbidden Planet:

Trump and the right-wing propaganda machine have created a country where people’s worst irrational instincts are validated, encouraged and then weaponized. It’s a heady and seductive message to many, which is why millions of people have succumbed to it. And why many more might literally succumb to it.
Maybe, maybe not. Because I’m trying to figure out what is to be gained by harassing an obvious citizen such as Atallah. I’m still not convinced this is the answer, because not everyone, even in ICE, is a mindless primitive
Every ICE officer doesn’t need to be a mindless primitive. Just enough of them to cause trouble. And to exert peer pressure on the more decent folks whose main goal is just to go to work, mind their own business, and not lose their job.
As the primitives are slowly promoted and infiltrated upwards in the increasingly hostile hierarchy, eventually it comes to the point that Joe or Jane ICE Officer needs to choose: obey the new orders to do [whatever previously unconscionable thing] and keep their job or resign / be fired. And face a life of ever more hostile law enforcement folks at every level without that handy dandy badge of their own as a shit-shield.
Most low-level Nazi’s really were just following orders. While swimming in a stew where evil was the main ingredient and they mostly just wanted to keep their head above water.
The “banality of evil” is a resonant quote for a reason.
They have quotas to meet and they are grabbing the easy to reach fruit.
Because there are a lot of people in the US who absolutely hate the idea that they have citizens with names such as “Atallah”.
Take a look around you. How many stories have we heard about people being harassed for speaking a language other than English when out in public? How many stories have we hear about people being told to “Go back where they came from”, even if they were born in the US? How many stories about people from one ethnicity being harassed because some idiot couldn’t tell them apart from another ethnicity that they’ve decide to especially hate this week?
All of those people want people like Atallah to feel unwelcome in the US, because, so far as the bigots are concerned, they are unwelcome.
I’m headed to Australia in a few weeks for work, and I’m actually a bit concerned they will demand to inspect my phone when I return home.
I do not understand how that’s remotely legal.
His statement was truly stunning and astonishing. How the hell could anyone paying even an iota of attention think that “…things would change to the better…”, especially regarding immigration and border issues?

We pointed out to them many, many times that most people who are in the US illegally actually entered legally with a visa, but then overstayed their visa. The only way to stop that is to harass people at customs stations, at the border or in airports or seaports. The Face Eaten Folk thought it was all going to be Taticool Guys out hunting Coyotes in the dessert.
They heard Trump and others talking of “murderers and rapists” and thought that meant no change if you were a law-abiding American. They didn’t get that it was pure bull, and allusions to criminality just meant the untermenschen: the people of those lesser races.
I wonder what the #s show WRT ICE staffing. It would seem odd that 100% of them are just fine with everything they are being ordered to do. Are any ICE officers quitting? Is replacing them/hiring exempted from the freeze on other gov’t hiring?
Even if I were the type of person who would be willing to accept a law enforcement or military job, I would HOPE there was some point at which I would think, “Well, THIS isn’t what I signed up for. And tho they pay me well, the pay isn’t good enough to do THAT!”
