I’m not sure it will take much effort in today’s wired world. Say your name gets on some “enemies” list. That list gets forwarded to Big Balls’ buddy at the IRS or Social Security. He makes some changes to your account and now it’s up to you to try to fix the “error” even as the government insists that they don’t make mistakes. They don’t have to physically harass you to make your life miserable.
Hell, just add them to the Social Security “Dead List”. Their whole financial life just crashes to a halt.
My phone (a Samsung) is tied to my Gmail account. If they get access to my phone then they get access to years of my email. I’m not particularly critical of the US, in my emails, but, there is a LOT of stuff in there I do not want the US government to look at.
Flirtatious pictures, gosh, even nudes from years back (or at least, access to the cloud storage - these are no longer on my phone, I have a hidden folder)
Discussions with my financial advisor. Details of my divorce.

Voting in the midterms will be just like in the past - everyone registered will be allowed to vote.
The problem will come in congressional districts where counting all the votes will result in House/Senate seats flipping from red to blue. There will be accusations of irregularities. Major irregularities. And voter fraud.
The courts, SCOTUS and DOJ will treat accusations as fact. The GOP will maintain control of both Houses of Congress.
Telling people that their vote isn’t going to matter and Republicans will remain in control whether they show up or not doesn’t really seem like a good way to drive up turnout to me, you know.
Nor does coming up with excuses for why you’re going to lose a year and a half ahead of time.
Can we cut the doomerism the hell out and start acting like we actually want to win elections instead of conceding defeat before the battle even begins?
