That was Reagan. We should have stopped this shit with that fascist piece of shit.
There’s a line from the band Heaven 17 from a song from 1980 called Fascist Groove Thang: “Reagan’s president elect, fascist god in motion.” It really started there.
In a funny sort of way, Reagan was right. We have met the problem. And the problem is fascist government.
The difference of course is the Rs like the fascist arm of government.
I would replace Peckerwoods with Pendejo. It’s a Mexican insult meaning roughly “asshole”. It’s not only appropriate, but it’s in Spanish for extra infuriating-ness.
Why not just go with “pricks”? Needs no explanation or translation.
So many choices…
Reagan and Gingrich very consciously began dismantling the legitimacy of the government, people trying to help are actually bad and public service is a scam. Just pieces of shit.
One side thinks police and military are the only legit functions of government.
The other side thinks those two are essential, but far from most important. The myriad other ways good government makes everything about a society better are the important ones.
And thus do they talk (shout nowadays) past one another in incomprehension.
I prefer the term “peckerheads” peckerwoods implies they can get it up.
Small nuance here: most people who say they want to help have bad intentions, while the small minority of people who genuinely want to be of service are suckers and fools.
I don’t know about “public service”, but a heck of a lot of government employees at all levels of responsibility are there because it’s a job. And if their agency’s mission is something helpful, like road building, providing worker retraining, or managing the retirement stipends of the elderly, the result is social good even if the worker only cares about doing an adequate job at [whatever] and taking home a paycheck.
The decisions about “helping” come at the level of which agencies exist, how well they’re funded, and what their guiding legislation says.
That’s the sort of government the right hates. The basic decent sort.
One of the reasons I felt good about my government job is that I felt I was in a position to help people I worked at a payment center for the Social Security Administration, and one of the joys of my job was when I was able to straighten out something that was preventing people from getting the benefits they were entitled to. I once discovered a miscalculation that went back over ten years which resulted in a widow receiving over $10,000.00 in back benefits; per policy I had to send a notice to her local office to have them get in touch with her to inform her of the windfall.
Im from the DC area lot of my family worked for the fed. They sincerely cared about doing a good job and serving the public.
Reagan had to make public service bad and greed good. Trump’s house is built on Reagan’s foundation. A shining hill of shit, if you will.
“A shining hill of swill” sounds better.
How much wood
Could a peckerwood peck
If a peckerwood
Could peck
Wood?
Look again at what was her expectation. You bring in Donald, Elon and Vivek and they’ll update the workplace to SciFi standards just because that’s what their Huge Brains do. That’s a form of delusional Magical Thinking. The Magic being that some genius will snap his fingers and fix it w/o it costing THEM anything.
Looking at the passage in JohnT’s post, these are examples of the tens of millions of people who have really no idea of how “the system” actually works except that it’s not delivering results they expected to happen… just because they expected them.
Honestly, IMHO it’s worse than magical thinking. It’s an completely abandonment of personal responsibility. One of the “messaging” issues for Democrats historically is that they say “We need to work on the environment/social welfare/healthcare which means we should cut military spendings/raise taxes/reduce our carbon use” which many people will object too, because they feel unsafe, or don’t want to have to pay more / use stuff less. IE the Democrats are being rational.
The Republicans on the other have for decades now, been just using the Fascist option of scapegoating whomever they like and saying that by destroying the Them, YOU (metaphorically speaking) won’t have to do/change Anything. And now that there’s zero accountability in the public due to a complete propaganda takeover in their media, well, it’s lies from the top down.
Magical thinking at least implies thinking - this is an absolute pandering to ignorance and abandonment of truth.
Perfectly said. Bravo!!
Would that it were not so.
