Surprises coming for voters for the Leopards-Eating-Faces Party

Because sucking up to the Right is a long-standing tradition of the media, and has only gotten worse post-Trump. If a Democrat did something like this the media would be collectively screaming about it.

Eh, a lot of them thought that in 2016-2020 as well. Doesn’t mean they won’t vote for those assholes. (Thanks for the link, though. Interesting article.)

'Zactly.

It comes back to something they’ve been carefully taught: “The worst possible R is better than the best possible D for my personal interests.”

Their thought processes mostly don’t go any deeper than looking for the (R) on the ballot and checking that one. They care about team T-shirt voting, not about politics.

It’s how Putin has operated for ages - invite big corporations to set up shop in Russia, waive all sorts of taxes and fees and regulations…and then suddenly reinstate all of them, forcing the companies to either pay MASSIVE amounts of money in perpetuity or leave the country rapidly , leaving lots of free tasty industrial infrastructure behind for the government or Putin’s rich cronies to take over.

Or pay a bribe under the table to have those massive fees & taxes continue to be waived.

With Putin or trump, what matter to them is how well they personally do out of the deal, not how well their country does out of it.

Many people, including some folks here are really struggling to realign their minds around that change in the USA’s government and governance.

It’s just a shame that these faces are only being eaten vicariously:

Maybe some of the Trump-loving owners and bosses of those construction companies will go bankrupt when their projects fail. Wouldn’t that be a shame.

Anyway…

Unfortunately at some point soon, you’ll be free to employ “illegals” as long as you pay enough of a cut to Boss Plump. Our kleptocracy is still nascent.

Unless these motherfucking traitors to humanity say, in no uncertain terms, ‘We want Democrats to set immigration policy, Republicans want to destroy our businesses and American prosperity’ they can fucking enjoy the rest of their miserable fucking lives living in cardboard boxes under bridges.

Sort of, but it will actually be slave labor provided by the formerly homeless. Trumps plan for people experiencing homelessness is to round them up and institutionalize them for treatment. These are treatment centers which have had a “problem” with renting out their patients to area businesses to work for no pay.

I don’t even know if I’m joking.

I posted a similar story in the Schadenfreude thread back in July:

Is Trump keeping all his promises? This MAGA couple doesn’t think so.

Eight months into his second term, the president is facing some difficulties living up to the high expectations of his supporters.

DUH.

SWAINSBORO, Ga. — Jessie Meadows told her mother-in-law not to panic when business slowed at the family flower shop last year. They just needed to hold on a little longer — until Donald Trump got back in office.

She’s still waiting for the turnaround.

The phone that used to ring all day during Trump’s first term sits mostly quiet. Customers are still reluctant to spend on an “extra” like flowers in her corner of small-town Georgia. A box of faux berries from China recently arrived at the shop with a note explaining that they cost 17 percent more because of Trump’s tariffs.

“Fruit’s getting outrageous now,” Meadows, 36, lamented to a customer one recent afternoon, explaining the rising price of the gift basket the woman orders every year for a friend’s birthday.

Trump campaigned on grand promises: Cut energy costs in half. “Immediately bring prices down.” “Drain the swamp.” Make IVF free and end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. Now Meadows was starting to question the president’s ability to keep his word — and not just on the economy. She didn’t like his dismissive attitude toward MAGA Republicans who wanted to see the government’s full files on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, after Trump said last year that he was “inclined” to release information on Epstein.

My bold.

Were you fucking idiots asleep with your heads up your asses during trump’s first term!

And yet:

Eight months into his second term, Trump is facing some difficulties living up to the high expectations of his voters, even as the vast majority of Americans who cast ballots for him are still supportive.

Taps sign…

Well, he’s already started the Trump Gold Card, where you can buy access to the US for rich people. Seems an obvious extension would be, once the Gold Card sales slow down, to create Silver, Bronze, Tin, Lead and Cardboard cards, that get progressively cheaper. Trump still makes bank, 10 $100,000 cards makes the same money as 100,000 $10 cards, after all.

Yeah, at the end of the day it could be a game-changer where they’re throwing us under the bus until we’re turning over in our graves. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

It’s mindless cliches all the way down.

That’s what passes for deep thinking in the RW stupid-o-sphere these days.

The shutdown of the Pacific Hydrogen Hub by Russ Vought isn’t just hurting Washington and Oregon - it’s screwing Montana too.

I hope I don’t derail this thread, but green hydrogen is a waste of money. Hydrogen Hubs being cancelled is actually a good thing.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m enthusiastic about renewable energy, but it’s much more efficient to use the energy directly rather than electrolyze water and then use the hydrogen.

Except for the small problem that wires aren’t portable, but hydrogen is. A carbonless fuel for airplanes, ships, and the ground vehicles for which batteries aren’t practical is a 100% necessity to combat AGW.

We only get there with massive government support of experiments and pilot projects. Most of which will fail economically, but will usefully advance the state of knowledge. A successful end state requires these sorts of seeming boondoggles. Not because of any cynical reasons, but because the nature of evolving a significant change to our technical / economic systems necessarily includes ideas that don’t work as well as those which do.

I don’t think there’s any ground vehicles where hydrogen is more practical than direct electricity. Even long haul over-the-road semi-trucks can be battery powered. And trains can be powered through overhead lines, so they don’t need batteries or hydrogen.

For ships, many of them, such as ferries and even tugboats, can be battery powered.
And as energy generation and transportation converts to renewables, a large portion of shipping will go away. We won’t need oil and LNG tankers and colliers anymore. That would eliminate something like 40% of all shipping. For the rest, I don’t think hydrogen is the answer. It’s a dangerous fuel, as explosive as gasoline fumes. Maintenance of hydrogen facilities is more expensive than oil facilities. Also, leaked hydrogen (and it always leaks) actually contributes to global warming. We may never totally go away from oil for shipping be it can be dramatically reduced.
