Surprises coming for voters for the Leopards-Eating-Faces Party

Here is the NYT version of the article. Don’t you feel sorry for the US cattle ranchers getting their faces eaten? No you say?

Pretty sure they’re ‘finally profitable’ because the tariffs have allowed them to raise their prices just under the tariffed beef costs.

Feed prices are probably also lower due to US grain production no longer being purchased by USAID or having access to the Chinese market.

Which means it’d be fun to have a Battle Royale between the feed growers, who’re screwed by low feed prices and the cattle growers who’re screwed by high feed prices.

Nothing happier than watching two groups of rock-ribbed trump supporters both having their faces eaten while they set upon each other with (figurative) spiked clubs.

Is that some kind of weird sex thing?

Thinking about things for a moment, it’s pretty clear the American system suffers from the two big parties depending on a conglomeration not just of Single-Issue but of Single-Issue-Solipsist voters. Who expect nothing else will happen as a result except their pet thing. The Trump coalition is just far more extreme about all these factions.

:face_with_steam_from_nose:

Am I catching a whiff of bothsiderism?

Og save me the most terrible accusation ever how can I ever live that down!

Yes both parties contain too many single-issuers. Those in the Retrumplican party happen to be aggressively selfish, destructive, and ignorant, and prone to keep their leopards unleashed.

Farmers of all varieties are accustomed to being price-takers, not price-setters. A grain farmer isn’t going to be mad at a rancher for buying cheap feed, nor is a rancher going to be mad at a grain farmer for selling expensive feed. That’s just the way of things when you’re dealing with commodities.

The D party existed while Trumpism took over the US, it is not unreasonable to ask ‘where did we D’s go wrong?’ at all. To your point, this is hardly ‘bothsiderism’.

After all, Kamala did lose the election partly because lots of potential D voters became single-issue on the matter of Gaza. Recognizing this fact, and learning how the Harris campaign failed to address this issue correctly, is just part and parcel of the process.

In case anyone was wondering about beef prices, NPR did a story on it about a month ago.

Basically, due to earlier pressures the cattle population is down and we then have tariffs on producers like Brazil. That means a beef producer is incentivized by the high prices to slaughter a heifer rather than holding for breeding.

Hmmm. Eating one’s seed corn rarely ends well.

Wadda mean “weird”?

If the two sides are land barons on the one and cattle barons on the other, it would actually be justified!

In that scenario, you’d only smell bull shit coming from one side.

“Oh, the farmer and the cowman should be friends”

I’ve looked at cows from both sides now.

(Now I’m wondering if there’s a parody of Both Sides, Now, but addressing bothsiderism. There has to be, but it also has to be pretty hard to find due to the term being used so often.)

Rows and flows of orange dyed hair
And stupid statements on the air
And tariffs, tariffs everywhere
I think he’s rather dim.

But when we look at other folks
They seem to be just other jokes
So many things I do not know
But laziness got in my way.

I’ve looked at pols from both sides now.
They’re all the same, but still somehow,
It’s all confusing as you know,
I really don’t know much… at all.

Thank you. I had thought of offering examples in my original post but decided not to, turns out the self-censoring was in vain.

Territory folks should stick together!
