The 17 points is in reference to the district this state Senate election took place in, not the entire state.

And it appears that Trump simply repeated “17 points” in response to whoever asked him the question, and who had teed up “in an area you won by 17 points.”
I can say with 100% certainty that Trump has no actual idea if he won Texas as a whole by 14 points, 17 points, or 1000 points (yes, I know, impossible), much less the area in Texas of that state Senate district. He just knows that he won bigly.

That was my take on it: He’s “never heard” about this district, the person running in it, or that there was a special election last week, but oh, just coincidentally, he remembers exactly how much he won it by just off the top of his head. Totally plausible.

Yeah that’s the thing. In some other site I saw one of the “repentant voters” clarify that they’ll “never vote for a Democrat”, before laying out why they were giving up on MAGA. So the most we can expect is they sit it out, the likeliest is they STILL vote for whoever the Republican is on that ballot.
'Zactly. The RW propaganda machine and the social monoculture od farmland America has filled their heads with three incontrovertible “facts”: D = evil, R = righteous, and MAGA = wonderful.
They are now struggling to swallow the last of those three. Which does nothing to undermine their rock-solid belief in the first two.
I used to be a strong advocate for getting everyone out to vote in every election, but honestly, lately, I’ve started thinking that getting MAGAs to just entirely drop out of public participation is the best option. They’ve proven that they simply cannot analyse current events in a rational way, to arrive at reasonable conclusions upon which to base their votes. Even if they temporarily abandon Trump and the Republicans, they’ll still be picking their next candidate in the same messed up manner they used to glom onto Trump to begin with.
Far better that they just stay out of it entirely.
