“No, Mr Rodriguez, your birth certificate still exists so you are not entitled to foundling status. However your birth certificate has been suspended so you are not entitled to any of the civil rights which would be due to you as an American citizen while it is suspended. These civil rights will return to you when the review process is completed at some unspecified point of time of our choosing.”
Can California do that? I know people like to say this, but does the State sit astride the money flow between individual taxpayers and the federal government?
And even if this is possible, Trump will just tell the IRS to target every individual taxpayer in California for unpaid income taxes, since they clearly were not properly paid.
How can a birth certificate be suspended? It is simple documentation of a birth. It’s not a license. I think any court, even SCOTUS, would have a major problem with depriving an American of basic rights due to the demand of a dictator. Nevermind.
Yep-convicted for purely racist reasons, and upheld 40 years later by the Supreme Court. His birth certificate didn’t mean jack shit to the court system, and was thus totally disregarded. No revocation is needed when it can just be disregarded.
Can a birth certificate be a forgery? The answer to Republicans is obviously yes. They had an entire movement based around the claim that one particular birth certificate was a forgery. So this is not new ground for them. The only difference is that now they have the power to act upon their claims.
This would just be an expansion on that. They would be reviewing birth certificates as possible forgeries. And set up the process so that your rights are suspended while the review is under way. And then drag out the review for as long as they wish.
Whatever the Republicans want it to mean.
Yes, it’s a medical document. But it’s also an official document from which legal rights are derived.
I think your idea is completely ridiculous.
But I remembered that link I gave.
But worse I remembered these are the people that gave us, “He’s not a natural-born citizen unless he shows us the long form.”
Abandoning the principles of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (which ARE Ameirca’s fundamental valuesimeanaspirations, no matter what fuckingMAGAts assert) is still a form of destroying the country.
Once again, people are arguing about this as if it should make sense.
That is not a necessary condition for anything the Republicans want to do. It didn’t “make sense” to let Trump appoint a new SCOTUS judge just weeks before an election, after they blocked Obama from doing it a year before an election, but they did it anyways. It doesn’t “make sense” to try to lower prices by imposing tariffs, but they’re going to do it anyways. It didn’t “make sense” to spout nonsense about people eating cats and dogs on national television, but Trump did it anyways.
Stop trying to make it make sense. We concede that none of it makes sense, and it never will. But it will happen anyways.
We’re not talking about “claiming birth certificates are forgeries”. We’re talking about a fantasy scenario where Trump declares that states no longer have the authority to issue birth certificates and/or claims he can “suspend” them, because people on this board want to be oppressed so badly that we’re now making up things to be afraid of.
Maybe next you can explain how people’s hypothetical claims about their faces being eaten by a leopard are completely unfounded because it was actually a jaguar that ate them.
Good job leaving off the part of the sentence that exposes your backpedaling. Just because you apparently can’t remember what you wrote a couple days ago doesn’t mean I’m so afflicted.
