Here in Albuquerque, I have noticed that whenever they rebuild/upgrade a major intersection, they install cameras high atop the new light poles that view every angle of the intersection. This is nationwide. My question is, Big Brother and all that aside, if I get plowed by some idiot, can I ask for footage from these cams for court/insurance? I have never heard of an accident tape from one of these cams used in court. Do you go ask for the city “spy tape” from the traffic dept? Are they exempt?
Pardon me, that should be surveillance with the “a”, and I should say I have never seen these tapes used locally.
I think those cameras may be there to take photographs of cars that run through the red lights. They are installing, or going to soon, a system like that here in Toledo. You might want to check with your local city council and see what they have to say about them.
And I’m think you might want to take a look at the second sentence in the OP. Nationwide?

This link will take you to the Albuquerque City Council homepage. Maybe you can find something there.
