Yay! the guy with creepy eyes is gone. Is it just me, or are these people kind of boring? Nobody really stands out. It makes me almost miss Rupert.
Dammit. When the hell is Survivor on? My spiffy new Bright House channel guide says it’s supposed to be on right now (10-11 Pacific time), but some kind of entertainment news show (which was scheduled for 9-10) is on in its place. Has it been delayed to late night or something? I guess I’ll just have to set the vcr to record CBS for the rest of the night and hope to catch it.
I have to slightly disagree with you here. I think they all stand out as “People Who Would Most Likely Be Thrown Into A Volcano Before The End Of Day One If I Were On An Island With Them.” I can’t stand the entire lot of them. Like a lot of other people are saying … meh. And I am going on record, again, as saying that I really hate that Eliza. Grr.
Which of the young women changed their minds and voted for the castaway that was booted last night?
Lisa changed her mind, the older woman in the group of young’uns. And I’m glad. Sure, Twila may not be Miss Congeniality, but Mia was a Grade A Certified Bitch. I’m going to have to agree with rockle that if I were stuck on an island with her, she’d be volcano surfing by the end of a day.
Ami looked terribly uncomfortable when Cutie (I know he has a name, I won’t learn it) gave her that immunity necklace. I liked his strategy, and the rest of the men seemed very impressed with him. I just don’t want him going anywhere any time soon.
The dude that gave Ami immunity was named John, no? I think that’s why they said “J.P.” or John P." on the ballot.
Mia’s closing speech was soooo ironic. Twila doesn’t have the social skills for the game? Gee, who was voted off for bringing disharmony to the group? What a class A certified sore loser. Hope Twila stays around for a long time and I’m not just saying that because I have her name in my Survivor game at work.
Eliza is incredibly annoying. I thought John had a great idea when he made the women split up based on their votes for Dolly.
that is the cattiest group of women I’ve ever seen. When they were split up, it was like a group of high school girls wondering what they were saying.
So when Rory found the oranges and came back with a bag, he didn’t tell anyone? Not until he was confronted by…Sarge(?)? Was he going to hide them?? I would have been tossing them around as I hit camp. THe guys seem to be working together, the women not hardly.
He gave immunity because he *had * immunity. Thus, he couldn’t have been on any ballots. Maybe he was the other John.
Yes, he’s John K., but I much prefer to call him Cutie.
Yes – Immunity John is John Kenney. Although, since he’s the only one left, he’s just regular John now. Incidentally, Immunity John lists “mechanical bull operator” as his occupation. Uh-HUH.
Anyway … did anyone else think that Mia was kind of like Alicia Calloway (from Outback and All-Stars)? And also that when Mia and Twila were arguing, it sounded a lot like Alicia vs. Big Tom (from Africa and All-Stars)? Just wondering if I am the only wackjob who thought so.
I thought Immunity Guy showed great foresight. By dividing the women into voting blocs, he immediately determined what the alliances were. By giving the immunity necklace to someone who didn’t need it, he forced them to make a decision on whom they really wanted out of the tribe. Since he didn’t choose one bloc over the other, he didn’t piss anyone off, which should serve him in good stead when the tribes merge.
[yoda]
Go far, he will, hmmm?
[/yoda]
I don’t think so, he’s not quiet that stupid. I think he just happened to have some on him. And I sure hope they were limes, 'cause those suckers were green.
Interesting observation by Probst: the guys said they were all voting to ensure a strong tribe, and they’ve voted off two of their most powerful members. The girls said they were voting to promote social harmony, and Eliza’s still in the game (John: “and she just would… not… shut… UP!!!”; we were all laughing our asses off at that point). Not all oars are fully in the water at this point in time.
Even John, who thought he was being incredibly clever in splitting the girls up, didn’t notice that they were actually pretty pissed that he did that.
Observations.
a) This season sucks so far. Boring!
b) Agree with Terminus Est about ImmunityBoy. Smart guy.
c) Eliza’s eyes are huge.
If you think these women are bad, you should see “The Apprentice”!
Yeah… When she said that I said to my husband, “Gee, how old were you when you gained the social skills not to be rolling your eyes and twisting your mouth when other people are speaking?” Bleah. And am I the only person kind of offended by the idea that a woman can only bond with other women by sitting around doing each other’s hair and nails?
You’re correct, I misspoke. I meant “the person giving him his information”. Thanks for the catch!
Well, it’s established that she’s not going to bond with them by working with them…
I cheered out loud when Mia got booted.
Her argument with Twila was quite interesting. She was saying that it wasn’t that the “younguns” weren’t hard workers, but that Twila et al were just harder workers, and that they only looked bad in comparison. She said that if Twila weren’t there, they would still have food, shelter, etc. I think her point was that the younguns weren’t completely lazy and incapable, which is true, and Twila said that herself. But what it sounded like was that she was complaining that mean Twila was hogging all the work for herself. ( ) And the upshot was that she (Mia) would work if absolutely necessary, but given the choice, would let Twila and others do the work.
Twila’s behavior in the tribal council was very impressive. Although Ami’s comments about her “getting in touch with her feminine side” were ridiculous-verging-on-offensive, I think there was an important message in there that Twila got loud and clear–if she was going to succeed, she needed to make more of a direct effort to get along with the bowheads. The look on her face showed that she was absolutely not dismissing Ami’s comments out of hand, but carefully considering them. This may be one of the first time Twila has been forced to cultivate the friendship of girly-girls, but it seems that she is willing to try. She did agree to try getting her hair braided. She made a joke about having her nails done, too, but she made it to the younguns–one of the first times we’ve seen her directly joke around with them. A good sign. While I don’t think she’s going to morph into Miss America any time soon, I predict that she will make more of an effort to engage and include those women.
Besides, I don’t think there is anything wrong with Twila’s “social skills.” She may not be good at making nice, but she seems like she’d be extremely easy to get along with. Some of those silly girls seem to think that you have to be “friends” with everyone. They were unwilling to accept Twila as more of a colleague than girlfriend.
Now as far as Lisa changing her vote–it may have had less to do with sophisticated strategy and willingness to betray than with the simple fact that she was sick of Mia already. She may be one of 'the younguns," but she’s in her 40’s. She may have enjoyed being one of the young hotties, but she’s also plenty old enough that she’s not going to put superficial popularity above her own survival. She alluded to having a backup plan earlier in the show. Maybe she did put it into effect. Or maybe she simply changed her mind, seeing that Mia was detrimental to the group as a whole. Either way, she’s earned lots of points from me.
To address Ethilrist’s point about Eliza bringing as much or more disharmony than Mia–Eliza is annoying as hell, but she’s clearly an outsider. She can’t really bring disharmony because nobody takes her seriously. She can make things more unpleasant superficially, but she’s not causing major structural problems.
It was surprisingly perspicacious of someone who looks like he should be dumb eye-candy; book, cover, etc. And of course his plan would’ve failed if the women had just kept their hands down when he asked for a show of hands (speaking of dumb…)
But I don’t see the advantage in forcing the women into making a decision. At this stage, what do the men care? I might’ve been inclined to give immunity to the person who seemed on the block; just to throw the TC into chaos, just for fun. I’ve always wondered what would happen if the pre-TC voting plan ever got disrupted by passing off immunity. I don’t think it’s ever happened.
