Survivor: China - Ep. 2: "My Mom Is Going To Kill Me!"

Yep. Sorry 'bout that. :smack:

Sorry, haven’t seen it, and don’t intend to. Can you summarize it for me?

It looked like standard Survivor sickness to me. She was on the ground moaning “I’m sick. I’m so sick.”

It happens every year, so I’m not sure what would make people jump to withdrawl.

From what I could see: Sweating, muscle twitching and pain, headaches, nausea (and vomiting?), fever?, possible insomnia (but that is common there), weakness, and stomach cramps. Basicly, on the ground, fetaled-up, clutching her stomach, and complaining a lot. And she felt better (but not 100%) within a day or two.

Lotsa possible diagnoses, from opiate withdrawal to transient viremia.

Interesting way to detox, if it was opiate withdrawal.

What a great episode. I don’t usually like the show that much until after the merger, but this one is just hilarious. I was really starting to like Ashley, but it did make more sense to get rid of her. Dave might very well be next, though, as he’s not really all that strong.

The skinny girl from NY-- she will look like death in a few weeks if she’s still there.

Those were two killer challenges, and the mud wrestling one must’ve sapped a lot of energy from the tribes. How demoralizing to do so much work and then lose. Bummer. The funny thing about Dave being the leader is that Jeff set them up for that-- he asked who wanted to be a leader, and then the rest of the tribe agreed to go along with that. On the one hand, it might be nice to have someone like Dave have a target on his back, so others in the tribe can be more relaxed, but he’s a terrible leader, and that might be one reason that they keep losing challenges. I’d get rid of him.

Absolutely. They went, what? Three days after they got the flint (so six days since they got there) before they had a fire because Dave had to have his patented Derek Zoolander Fire-Hearth for People Who Can’t Cook Good and Want To Do Other Things Good Too. The reason people weren’t going ahead and making a fire anyway was because Captain Toolworthy HAD THE FLINT AND WOULDN’T GIVE IT TO THEM. He is, after all, The Leader.

Boy’s gonna go next time they lose an IC, I can just about guarantee it.

  1. How did you come to this conclusion? Yes, he had it in his pocket, but I don’t recall any of the others asking him for the flint, only arguing that they should build a fire first.

  2. What kind of self-respecting chick wrestler is going to let a model tell her that she can’t have the flint.

I wonder if the crew would have stepped in if they just physically assaulted Dave to get the flint.

A former model.

I must say I wonder about people who define themselves as something they used to be.

I don’t get why she told ~anyone~ the secret clue of where to find the hidden idol — her potentially greatest asset ???

Is she naive?

I’m sure the show’s producers put this in his bio to make him more colorful

Right, they could have asked him and made their own fire. Or- get this- helped him make his Fire Altar instead of standing around whining.

She had to. It was part of the deal. Her note said she had to give the clue to someone on the other team before she went back to her tribe.

DrDeth - Or they could’ve beaten the crap out of him and gotten a fire going 48 hours earlier. Dave’s a joke.

Well, yes, I believe she is naive, but also, it’s a bit of a (dunderheaded) attempt at strategizing on her part. I think she’s trying to follow the same path Earl and Yau-Man did last season, but I don’t believe for a second Todd would actually share information with her. (silenus, Jaime was instructed to give the clue away - she gave it to Leslie (because she thought Leslie was the weakest link). Leslie didn’t have to share it with anyone, but told Todd anyway.)

Regarding Dave - yeah, he’s been ham-handed (and the Derek Zoolander comments were spot on), but he’s also been faced with a tribe that doesn’t appear willing to help without whining about it. Jamie even commented that she thought he dropped that stone and splashed her with mud on purpose. Maybe that last Tribal Council will open his eyes up to how abrasive he’s been, and maybe the absence of Ashley will provide a less passive-aggressive response from the others. Hell, maybe they’ll finally win an Immunity Challenge and not have to worry about it next week.

NO, Leslie is the girl who recieved the clue … and then shared it with a tribe member

I sit corrected. Time to review the tape before next week’s episode.

Hi, I am Sapo, a former preschooler.
ETA: I wonder if Jaime could have given the clue to Leslie and somehow confuse her into thinking they had to open it together and take a look at it.

Hmmm…have we had previous seasons where a contestant “gets sick” in the first few days? And that contestant gets voted off (ie, sent to detox)? We need Mark Burnett to write a tell-all book.

Why beat the crap out of him? All they had to do was as for the firestarter and do it. I don;t think they could have done it, myself. It isn’t that easy to start a fire with one of those “flints”, there’s a trick/technique to it to it (which Dave clearly knows).

And Dave was right- when they came back their camp was in a lake- excpet Dave’s Delux Firepit. Their firepit would have been washed away.

And here’s the point- if you don’t have the technique with the flint, it is quite possible to ruin it.

Dave was right, they were wrong. IMHO.
