Survivor: Palau - Premiere Feb 17

Was it really Tom that said that? I thought he wanted to go back and someone else said it was better to go somewhere new, and he just went along with it.

They did say at the beginning that they were left “with only the clothes on their backs” so I’d guess that they didn’t realize that they were starting the game. Some of the women were wearing sandals and stilettos, so I really don’t think that those were their choice of outfits.

you’ll think that contestants would learn to start a fire and be prepared* for any outings where Probst is involved by now…

  • would an airtight pack of matchsticks be allowed?

I’m upset that Jo got voted off so soon. She has a strong personality, yes, but she seemed willing to pare it back a little. Also, it seems like she would have brought some drama with her, which is the only reason why I watch the show. I think there would have been some great “I will always put my finger in your face” kind of fights between her and Angie. Plus, she seemed really smart and cool. Too bad she wasn’t really thinking during that challenge.

Who’s the crazy eyebrow chick? I already don’t like her.

Angie is a question mark to me. Yeah, she’s “different”, but ya know what? So are all the others. I don’t like when people automatically equate having tatoos and piercings and funky-colored hair with being “different”. I’m sure in her workplace, she isn’t that different. You can also be different without looking different. She was with them for a day and she had already cast herself as the lonely outsider. I think was an intentional way to garner pity from the TV audience, but it didn’t work on me. I’m a little “off” myself but I at least try to click with everyone before labeling myself Lil Miss Have-No-Friends. Maybe she did try, but it sure didn’t seem that way.

I would normally root for the older folks off the bat, but I’m willing to let the show progress a little before picking my favorite.

They will never be able to do the “first two on the island get immunity” thing again. Both of the winners were promptly ousted.

No, only one was ousted - Jolanda. The other first one to the beach was the skinny geeky guy, and he seems to be doing fine so far.

Katie - that’s the local one. She seems solid so far, or at least not standing out, which this early usually means obnoxious or annoying.

I had to snicker at the TC when Jeff asked her, ‘What surprised you…?’ I thought she should have said, ‘Oh, my eyebrows always look this way.’

:dubious: How’s that? Jolanda and Ian were the first on the island, and at least Ian’s still there. Maybe you’re thinking of Jonathon - he was one the idiots that jumped off the boat.

I kind of like Ian - gangly surfer dude. He’s strong, but he doesn’t look like he was cut out of a mold like some of those other studly guys.

It’s going to take me a while to figure out which young, pretty woman is which. They could vote off all those blonds now and I wouldn’t miss them.

Well with the first episode in the past I have to say I’m not hooked, yeah, it’s shiny and so it is holding my attention, but this hasn’t made it into my appointment book yet. Maybe next week will work its way in.

Anyone else feeling sort of blah?

Oops. Well, they all look the same at this stage.

Ladies, let’s not fight over Tom the firefighter. I’ll take him.
(I already have a firefighter husband, I know how to handle them - firefighters, that is.)

This was a good start, although the “no help” turned out to be complete BS, as was expected. I’m soooooooo glad that Singing Lady got the boot early, but I’m still puzzled why Ed Bradley (we were all laughing at how much that guy looks like him) got picked over Young Guy. You need a strong team to compete.

And I, too, wonder when people will realize that being bossy is the surest way to get an early ticket home.

My only complaint-- I wish they would film this in Hi Def-- the scenery (in both senses of the word) would be astounding!

Sorry, but I’m taking Tom the firefighter to give him some manly love.

Wanda was on the CBS morning show today. She said that she didn’t sing all that much, and that it was just edited to make it look like she sang all the time. Still, she seemed like a real ‘rah-rah’ type. Those people get on my nerves.

‘Ed Bradley’. Right, that’s who he looks like! I would have chosen him because the young guy might be a threat later on, and there were already plenty of strong players on the team. Choosing him eliminates a potential threat later on, and brings in the ‘old person’s work ethic’ (presumably – though isn’t he a lawyer and not one of those ‘get up at the crack of dawn and get to work’ type?).

Uh-oh, maybe there is another catfight brewing here, because I am calling dibs on Ian right now. He is MY skinny geek. :stuck_out_tongue: Also, my early favorite (in large part because he went to Penn State, like my husband).

Anyway … thank Og that this looks like a more interesting cast than Vanuatu!

What, “I like Dolphin Boy” isn’t enough to get me first dibs?

Simple: “Looking to get a leg up on their fellow castaways, Stephenie LaGrossa, the 25-year-old pharmaceutical sales rep from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Jonathan Libby, the 23-year-old marketing associate from Dallas, Texas, leaped off the raft in an attempt to swim to shore.”

It was a stupid move right at the very beginning, that ended up coming back to bite him in the ass.

Jonathan’s biggest mistake appears to be what he didn’t do. While most of the others were going around forming alliances, he stayed out of it. So he didn’t have anyone who saw a reason to bring him over. The same personality trait was exhibited by his decision to swim ashore when most of the others were rowing. In this game, you have to make connections.

That guy with the down-home Southern drawl, I predict, will get annoying real fast.

I like him. He’s my favorite for right now.

Triplets anyone??

Ahhh, I dozed off at 6:58 and woke up when they were in the canoe already, i missed that.

I thought it was Tom, might be wrong I was still groggy.

Do they still do the “luxury item” thing? If so, how did they get them this year - dropped off at the camp?
