Certainly for Chanelle, she lied constantly and often with no good reason. However, the reasons for getting rid of Rocks was less clear.
Purely my opinion. But yeah, he was a great players, and got not a single vote.
Xander did a whole lot of nothing and was on the wrong side of most votes. What made him great?
I think this is just a result of bad editing. I also thought Xander had a chance last season but clearly the players had a vastly different perception of his game than what viewers were given. I have zero reason to believe it was fixed (and I’m not entirely sure how it would be, or why).
As for this episode I didn’t have much of a problem with it.
I actually think Hai made a mistake in going along with the plan to get out Rocksroy - Romeo is far more likely to take him out than Rocks was. Rocksroy is, at his core, predictable. Which is exactly what you want in both allies and enemies.
And while I don’t think that Rocksroy was voted out because he was black (although why “bossiness” from a black man always seems to get way more blowback than from a white man is an interesting discussion), I think it was a very clear “wake up!” signal to Drea which came at just the right time. At least they made it seem like the plan was to blindside her. Either way, getting out two idols and getting ride of Tori is a win for the majority.
Survivor Wiki has 93 black contestants out of 635 (14.6%). There have been 4 black winners (about 10%). So not horribly out of whack.
On a different note, why do the big strong guys never realize that the not-as-strong dudes aren’t likely to go into an “all male” alliance where they are clearly the weakest members? It’s like they don’t even consider whether the plan is good for the folks they are pitching it to.
Played his stuff right, won a bunch of contests.
He won two immunity challenges. And so did Erika. He had an extra vote which he used to turn a 4-3 vote-off of Liana into … a 5-3 vote-off of Liana. He used his idol on himself when he didn’t get any votes.
I don’t remember him playing any of his advantages correctly. In fact, I remember it more like @AlsoNamedBort does - that he wasted most of them. The whole season seemed to be full of players that weren’t quite sure how the game worked (with some of the new twists that makes sense I guess), but Xander was particularly clueless.
Even the classic moment he was given (giving away his idol when it was about to be stolen) was shown later to not even be his idea.
He also chose to take with him to the final the player that ultimately beat him. Although he got exactly zero final TC votes, so it probably wouldn’t have mattered either way.
Xander used his HII the last time he could have used his HII.
I really don’t know why anyone would want to get rid of Jonathan now. He’s not that much a threat to win him all, and keeping him around keeps challenges mostly predictable. If he goes, then it’s pretty much just going to be Lindsay winning challenges.
IMO, this is shaping up to be a very interesting finish.
Seven are left, and unlike most seasons, there are no “this person will win for sure if they get to the end” players, and no obvious goats to drag to the final.
Challenge-monster Jonathan looks like an obvious favorite, but his strategic game is not great. He’d get jury votes; would he get enough to win?
The seemingly weakest players, Romeo and Maryanne, have played very smart (if emotional) games. Either could present a compelling case for themselves at a final TC. Longshots, maybe, but not goats.
Mike, Lindsay, Drea, Omar - I could see any of them getting jury votes. But none seems like a clear favorite over any of the others.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
I’m pretty sure there’s another Advantage-geddon coming up. And I think the next time that Jonathan doesn’t win Immunity, he’s out, unless he uses the Shot In The Dark.
I’m guessing next week is the Do Or Die. Which could be interesting because I’m sure Romeo, Maryann, and Omar will all sit out. Jonathan I’m sure will play. What will the rest do?
I agree. And I, too, sympathize. It was brought up last season as well. But I don’t agree that because, for example, that racist cops infringe upon the rights of blacks in general, that black players in a game with other players who have exhibited no racism what so ever should be given some advantage. Carry that out further, should those advantages be given in other TV games? Yes, I believe Drea’s reaction was real, and her experiences might have been painful, but I also think in this case her anger was misplaced.
Reaching back and grabbing a player at random to prove your point is pretty meaningless. Name any unfair situation you feel has happened and I can find a situation in the past that disproves it.
Xander was lucky. After the first tribal of that season, I turned to my wife and said, “Xanders’s next”. But it wasn’t to be. You’re assuming a player needs to ‘do something’ to not get voted out. This is just not true. Zander didn’t get voted out because it was more advantageous to vote someone else out.
Is that directed to me? I was responding to DrDeth who claimed that last season was fixed and Xandar should’ve won.
Ahh, sorry then. I conflated responses.
But I do think the idea that the producers rig the shows is pretty silly. There would be no point in it and, anyway, they apparently get it wrong a lot if they do. Check out the reunion shows for verification.
On the contrary; Drea and Maryanne both gave up advantages that night.
Now, had Drea not played her idol, would the others have gone through with their plan to vote her out? Maybe, maybe not. We’ll never know.
But I honestly don’t think it can be argued that Drea and Maryanne have been “given some advantage” as a result of that TC.
Now I really am rooting for Maryanne to make it to the end. Listening to her ramble on at final TC, with a stream of consciousness speech stating the obvious, would be the highlight of the season.
I’m arguing against Drea’s POV, not this board or reality. My point is, she passionately argued that the two jury members (at that point) were voted out because they were black and that’s not fair. There were many complicated factors involved in who got voted out and why, some we saw - some we didn’t. But I’m quite confident race was not part it.
I would seriously pay money to find out how many hours of footage they had to delete of Maryanne non-stop talking. I’m guessing the editors despise her.

My point is, she passionately argued that the two jury members (at that point) were voted out because they were black and that’s not fair.
I suggest you rewatch the episode, because that’s not what she said at all.
