Yes but they were founded in 1982. So I think thirty years is more than enough time to say that the awareness part of the mission is complete.
I only found out about these things because of the PP kerfuffle. So, for whomever’s counting these things, the PP kerfuffle could be counted as the reason why I’m no longer a SGK supporter, but these other reasons are the more fundamental and long term reasons.
Really? Your point is “who isn’t aware”?
I understand that SKG commited the crime of no funding PP, interesntingly enough nobody cared about SKG’s budget or if the secretaries played ping pong in the lounge.
You know who also cares about “Breast cancer awareness”? Every single institution in the topic, all of them.
It’s simply a case of “I’m just saying”. I’m just saying PP was founded by a racist eugenist and they are still proud of her.
My point is not “who isn’t aware” but instead why does the group spend twice as much on awareness education as it does on research? What does the awareness education accomplish?
Abortion, like gay marriage, is one of those controversial things that shouldn’t even be controversial. Sometimes RWs have some good or at least challenging arguments on economic issues. But on social issues – there’s no merit at all to the anti-abortion/anti-gay-marriage side. It’s like arguing with flat-Earthers.
They’re one and the same side? There seem to be, even on this MB, people who support gay marriage but not abortion.
It depends on what they’re trying to accomplish by awareness. I agree that since the pink ribbon is omnipresent in October, when the NFL wears pink stuff for an entire month, that they don’t need to make the same kind of effort they made to get to this point. I don’t know how much that means they could spend on other areas.
They’re not the only people funding research into breast cancer treatments, and spending more money doesn’t mean things will happen faster or better on their own. SGK would know more than you and I and how much research funding is needed and where it’s needed. On the other hand I hear stem cell researchers are looking for money.
One can think that awarenes is much more than “wow, there’s breast cancer”.
Jeep’s Phoenix:
Of course, though, you’d never entertain the possibility that there’s an actual, philosophical viewpoint about the person-hood of a fetus at the heart of her attitude, which would logically explain it all. No, the given is that she hates other women, and if you don’t understand quite how that can happen, it still must be the truth.
So Brinker is still on the board and drawing an even bigger salary? Wow. Or is there more to this story?
Maybe someone was happy with the job she was doing. Any guesses as to who that might’ve been?
There is no such philosophical viewpoint, only fairy tales subscribed to by medieval troglodytes who are incapable of critical thought.
Count me in as a medieval troglodyte, then. The only thing that would cause me to resume any donations to SGK is if they cut of funding to PP. I actively boycott products with the SGK pink ribbon because of their defending of the “Pink Ribbon” brand and the way they use their funds. As a woman whose mother, sister and aunt have all had breast cancer, I still despise the organization.
Just because you believe that abortion is a right and should freely be available to all doesn’t make it fact.

Even thought that funding provided mammograms for poor women and didn’t pay for abortions?
friedo:
Oh, of course. There is an objective truth as to when a zygote crosses the line to “human being” and critical thought on the subject can only possibly lead to one single conclusion. And of course, hatred is the only possible motivation for disagreeing.
Yes, because it diverts money to abortions.
StG
glad to hear you’ve got your priorities straight i guess
That’s OK, I increased my donations to Planned Parenthood after this, so I’m sticking up for poor women in areas who don’t have other options for breast cancer screening/treatment, yet still not giving a dime to Brinker. Win, win!
I did the same thing. Mike Huckabee inspired me to do so, I was listening to one of his abortion rants.
I live in Texas, and the state has defunded PP as a women’s health care provider. This means that we gave up federal funding for this, too.
