Let me restate that. “Idiot” isn’t the right word.
She’s ignorant, clueless, and posts well before she thinks. She also seems to have no understanding of the concept of plagiarism, which tends to bias me.
Does anyone feel reassured by the fact that the armed woman is an idiot? Man, I’d hate to go out with a woman like that and have any disagreement. Might get shot for forgetting to open the door . . . or for remembering to open it. . . you never know.
As i said in my earlier post, she has a habit of doing drivebys and shooting from the hip (har har) and never coming back to explain or reason. I’m not expecting her to address what is being said here. OTOH, I don’t expect her to be around for long. There are probably other boards better suited for people like that.
I suppose those things could be true, Anthracite, but in the nearly 20 years that I’ve been involved in shooting sports and gun clubs and met various women from all over the country who carry guns, I’ve never met one who was afraid of being attacked.
Much as I do now, most of them answered that they weren’t afraid, simply aware that there is a possibility of being attacked and they’d rather be prepared than unprepared. I don’t own a fire extinguisher because I fear fire. I don’t light candles only if they’re placed over large pools of water, I have no problem going to a bonfire, and I don’t spend every night afraid that my house will burn down while I’m asleep.
I don’t wait for an escort to go out at night, I park my car wherever there’s an available space, and I’m not a terribly fast walker. I don’t hide in my house to avoid being attacked. I live my life, go about my business, and like my fire extinguisher, my pistol is there if I ever need to use it. That’s how most of the gun owning women I’ve met are, too.
I have been beaten badly enough by trespassers to be in the emergency room for seven hours and the hospital for three days. The incident made the front page: “Teacher Near Death.” The perp was caught.
More recently, I was held up at gun point in a parking lot. Having taught high school for twenty years, I was brazen enough to make him give me my favorite purse back. Again, the perp was caught.
Neither time did I wish that I had a handgun.
The former Director of the State Mental Health Department in our state said that guns kept in the home are more likely to kill a resident of that home than to kill anyone else.
My point was that one cannot say that having the gun makes a woman safer from rape. It might, but there is not enough evidence to draw such conclusions. My point is not addressing women in general who own and/or carry guns. Aren’t we saying the same thing on that point? 
An anonymous appeal to an anonymous alleged authority (since when did a former director of State Mental Health become an expert on firearms issues? Since when, for that matter, did a lesbian coal power plant expert become one either?) on this issue does not in any way whatsoever make it true. There are about…let me check…46,221 GD threads where people debunk, attempt to debunk, or support that theory. I would say at best it is not easy to determine, nor to make any sort of sweeping generalization along those lines.
I don’t understand something. Is the woman carrying the gun in her hand? In a holster? Is it concealed in her purse? A rapist is not going to allow a woman to dig through her purse. As far as I know most rapes are a sudden attack with the woman having little time to respond. So unless she has it instantly at hand, what good is it going to do?
Holstered and concealed is the best way to go.
I can, after years of practice, draw and fire 3 on target shots in a about 1.25 seconds from my normal carry position.
I don’t carry a purse, and even if I did, I’d never put a gun in it. Too easy to get it away from me.
By having awareness and safety radii, you can begin to be ready. I’m not a woman and I’ve never been assaulted like this, but I’d wager many cases have the victim “have a funny feeling” about the attcker-to-be, or the area they are in. Those cases where the victim is whacked over the head from behind, having heard or sensed nothing, I do not see carrying being helpful. But I’d wager that is not the more common MO.

I considered trying to refute some of her interesting “facts” about crossdressing and laws against it in that last thread, but decided that there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Besides, I’d have to go do research and actually FIND the citations that I’d be using. Unlike her, who just seems to make them up as it goes.
