Suspended software installation?

I’m running WinXP-Pro. Several months ago I installed DriveImage. This seemed to complete as it should, and the program has been working properly ever since. (In combination with an external FireWire hard drive, it’s about the best backup scheme I’ve come across.)

But since then I’ve twice run across a strange problem when installing other software: These subsequent installs give weird error message to the effect that another installation - for DriveImage - is in process at the same time and that this may lead to problems. Yet the new software installation have in fact completed successfully.

Is it possible to have some record of a “suspended” installation lying around somewhere (the registry?), ready to cause this strange behavior? Is there any way to diagnose this? To fix it?

Not sure if this applies to Drive Image, but go to Add/Remove Programs and click the uninstall link for Drive Image. It may give an option for “Modify/Repair/Uninstall”. If it does, try the Repair option.
