I’ll never come up with anything fun to do for my 2000th post, so I’ll just use it to tell you all something that’s really nice.
The Swedish government is currently forming a law that will allow lesbians to get legally inseminated. Today, women can only be inseminated if they’re married to or living with a man, and any other women will have to avail themselves of other techniques and have no legal coverage. There’s been a well-publicised case of a man who thought he was helping two friends out and ended up paying alimony for three children. Under the new law, two women will be able to be the legal parents of a child created through insemination of one of them.
Ain’t life great? Now, if only we can get that two-mother thing sorted out, we’ll really be rolling.
Yeah, sure, blame the Swedes for society’s ills while you’re at it. Personally, I’m glad that they allow women who truly want a child to be able to have a child.

And athelas, we already discussed the Scandinavian “death of marriage” in the SDMB a few months back. The Scando-Dopers generally were of the opinion that the outsiders were making a bigger deal than the average Swede/Dane/Finn was.
