Disappointing. Slow in places and not as funny as I had hoped. A chick-flick for sure. The best scenes, as usual are the ones used in advertising. I wouldn’t go to the movies to see it, but it’s good enough to rent on video when it comes out.
Gee, I dunno I only heard “Look! You have a baby!..In a BAR!” 54 times last night, add that to the previous 5,467 times I heard that in the trailers and I really feel as though I would be missing out if I didn’t see this movie.
NOT!!!
Reese Witherspoon is simply the blonde flavor of the month. Anyone remember Alicia Silverstone?
Yeh they need to find a new America’s sweetheart, ever since Meg Ryan hit the wall.
They should take a good, hard look at Renee Zellwegger. She actually has some talent …
When I saw the trailer, I had the entire movie figured out, and no curiosity about it at all. That saved me a coupla bucks.
Didn’t I read somewhere that the writer is actually from Alaska and has never been to Alabama at all? Anyone else hear this?
With all due respect, screech-owl, the criticism implicit in your comment is very limited in its application.
After all, I’d bet money that Ray Bradbury has never been to Mars.
Big difference, though - if the writer of SHB portrays Alabama as being full of stereotypes, with no real gradation to the characters therein, it makes for a shallow plot. Bradbury could always rest easy in knowing that while he’d never been to Mars, neither had anyone else.
I wonder how the movie potrays the New Yorkers?
Not enough to go see it mind you.
When I saw the trailers for this I was confused. Why is Reese Witherspoon, who, after Legally Blonde and Election was really starting to make a place for herself, doing this kind of Sandra Bullock-reject script?
Because Speed 2 had already been made?
I really did enjoy Alicia Silverstone in Blast From The Past, I’d like to see her do more…she might have actually been pretty good in this movie, but then again these two are really a lot alike in looks and characters they play.
Blast from the Past is one of my absolute faves!!! I have the DVD - maybe I’ll watch it tonight!
Oh, yeh and the reason Reese made this movie may have something to do with the 5-mil salary she received - and the fact that she’s such a box office draw depite the film’s crappiness is the very reason she’ll be getting a cool 15-mil for the Legally Blonde sequel (that’s 14-mil more than she received for the original).
You’re actually thinking, I think, of the fact that Jewel, who did the cover of the song for the movie, is from Alaska.
I actually just came into this thread to say that I detested her cover of that song. But not because she came from Alaska.
Whoa! Jewel covered Skynyrd?!? Yikes.
