I LIKE S&L. Take it away from me at your peril.
Equal tastes nasty; Splenda tastes weird–and does not satisfy me. I only use S&L in tea, hot or cold. I don’t drink coffee. Don’t get me started on Nutrasweet, which is vile, IMO.

You’re not looking hard enough if you think it’s not available in the United States. It has to be sold as an “herbal dietary supplement” wink, wink, but they’ll sell it to you in most health food stores or over the intertubes.
Uh, it’s now perfectly legal to sell the stuff as a sweetener - this was announced some months back as a deal (IIRC) partially financed by Coca-Cola. Check out TRUVIA. This stuff is in grocery stores right now; I saw some just the other day. I do diabetic education and it’s my job to know this stuff.
Per the website above, Truvia is the active chemical refined/purified from the Stevia plant, supposedly eliminating the ‘off’ taste that many folks don’t like.
I found packets of Stevia - white packets, for those who care - in a restaurant. True, the restaurant was in Ithaca, the home of Cornell and as big a college town as can be found in the U.S. with all that implies. Still. Packets of Stevia next to the Sweet & Low and Splenda. It’ll be in your home town soon.
YES! VELAMINTS! That is what they were! Gave me a massive headache within 10 minutes, but they were yummy.
I loathe the taste of stevia. Revolting to my palate. My order of preference for sweetening stuff is agave nectar/honey, sugar, splenda, anything else artificial, then I’d rather have it unsweetened than the taste of stevia.
I can definitely taste the aftertaste of artificial sweeteners, I just make an effort not to let it bother me if I want soda.
Apparently a lot of people are jonesing for them. Where there is desire there’s a way
In related news, Regis Philbin is now a spokesperson for the product. I went to Sweet 'n Low’s website, and my speaker volume was a bit too high, because I jumped when Regis popped up and said, “Hey pal, you got a minute?”
