Sweet potato fries

I enjoy sweet potato fries. I also have never seen them battered or coated. Often in places I’ve ordered them, they are spicy. I really like them spicy. I also like the sweet potato chips that come spiced. Pairing them with sugar or other sweets would be too much, but pairing them with some kick is just right. Now I’m hungry. I often have some in the freezer to bake, but not today.

I know, right?

I haven’t seen them battered, but the ones I’ve had seem to have been dredged in flour.

I love sweet potato fries with a good amount of salt. I’ve never had them battered, except in tempura.

I’m not a big fan of sweet potato fries, but this sounds about perfect to me.

Oh, yeah, the really thick ones (like, a quarter of a potato) are all right, though they’re still not anything remotely similar to real fries, and shouldn’t be called by the same name.

Huh? Potatoes are gluten-free. If anything, sweet potatoes are more often coated in a batter or flour, and regular fries are not, making the sweet potato fries more gluteny than standard fries.

I love sweet potatoes. I like regular fries. I’ve tried sweet potato fries a couple times and got sick each time. Something weird there.

Sweet potatoes are being pushed as a healthier alternative to white potatoes.

I think white potatoes get a bad rap quite unfairly, but sweet potatoes do offer some nutritional perks they lack.

I just bought some frozen sweet potato fries to eat for breakfast. Are they as good as regular fries? No. But they aren’t bad. Just different.

I’d only order them at a restaurant if they were served up in a special way, not as a stand-in for regular fries.

I absolutely love them and get them any time I have the chance. They even make them for us out on the boat I work on. They are easily much, MUCH better than even the best french fry which are mediocre at best.

I prefer sweet potatoes baked. I’ll even just microwave them sometimes.

I’ve never eaten a yam, which is not a sweet potato. I’m not sure where to buy one in the US. Most readers of this thread have probably not had one either, but I’m curious about whether they can be made into fries.

Not a fan, and a local place offers them with ketchup or ICING???

Maybe a thicker cut can get crisper with a little flour dredge, without getting burned on the outside? The ones I’ve been served have been fairly thin, and I figure they need to be in order to crisp up without burning with the extra sugars. I would try them with the flour dredge if I saw them. I do enjoy the tempura!

Does anyone else eat food at home? Slice a potato and cook it. Sweet potato “fries” actually work well baked. Sometimes I do cubed with garlic.

Never tried them? Do they taste anything like sweet potato chips? Because those are awesome.

Years ago when my kids were small I used to regularly cook fries that were a mixture of potato, sweet potato and pumpkin (butternut squash I think to US eaters).

I have a passion for sweet potato fries, and will pay extra to have them instead of hash browns when I eat breakfast at a diner.

I, for one, cook all the time.

Kroger sells them in a big, old frozen bag. My wife thinks they are somehow “less bad” than regular Steak frys, so I cook them for her.

Not bad. I kinda like them. But then, I dip everything in Blue Cheese dressing.

I’m so confused. I’ve never been able to get this one. What is the difference, exactly?

I can’t imagine them with ketchup. that would just be nasty. The flavors wouldn’t work together at all. Sweet potato fries are, however, absolutely fantastic with creamy honey mustard sauce. I’m not a big fan of sweet potatoes, but I do love them with honey mustard. So good.
