Swimming pool/fencing laws

I know that swimming pools are considered an ‘attractive nuisance’ and as such, a homeowner is liable for any damages/injuries that can occur if a child gets hurt or drowns in said pool.

Along those lines, I was under the impression that fences were required by law to be around an area where there is a pool. The problem is that I cannot locate this on the net, and cannot tell if it is a federal, state, or county law, or if it is even a law in the first place. Does anyone know if a fence IS required legally, or is it just a realllllly good idea?

Thanks!

Check your local ordinances. There’s no Federal law on this, and these things usually aren’t handled at the state level. Atlanta appears to have its ordinances online, but the site was down when I checked just now.
