Near the end of Swimming Pool, the writer looks at the publisher and his daughter through the window in the door. Then the scene flashes back to France. The French girl waves from the swimming pool. The writer waves back from the balcony. And then…
…The projector stops abruptly. After management is alerted (there was no one in the projection booth) they announce that they can not show the last five minutes due to technical difficulties. We get our money back.
Does anyone know what happens after the hand waving?

No, seriously, the image of the French girl cuts to the English daughter to show that the French girl was a character in the writer’s novel the entire time and that all the scenes in France were figments of her imagination.
Or something like that.
