Yeah, definitely. Not so much for West Virginia, but there are parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania where even if coal mining isn’t a massive part of the economy, it’s still an important part of the local culture.
I’m not sure what thread this belongs in but since there’s a concrete link to the post Bandit bungles of West Virginia governor Buford T. Justice (those are the same dude right?) I’ll put it here.
Here’s the theory…
- Justice switches to Republican party
- Rick Perry resigns from Energy to take over DHS
- Joe Manchin appointed Secretary of Energy and resigns his senate seat
- Justice appoints a Republican as interim senator from WV until a special election can be held.
- Obamacare repealed via 51-50 vote in the Senate. (Suck it McCain)
I don’t know why Manchin would go along with this, but I also don’t know a ton about Joe Manchin.
Is there any reason to take this speculation seriously?
