Can anyone reccomend a website or any other source where I can get information on tonsils? I have suffered usually on an annually recurring basis from a single tonsil that becomes severly inflammed. My doctor claims after a throat culture that it wasn’t from a bacterial source, so now I’m left suffering in pain and wondering what else this could be a symptom of. (I’m just trying to do my own homework here and put and end to this problem) I’d genuinely appreciate any help or feed back especially if any one knows of or has experienced anything similar. Thanks,
Well, since I’m not a doctor I may well be wrong, but I thought any type of cold could cause your tonsils and uvula to swell up (with dead white blood cells, maybe?)as your body tries to fight off the virus. I’ve had it happen to me a few times- more uvula than tonsils, though- but I’ve never had a strep culture come back positive.
Hard to tell from your description how often this is occurring, but if you’re suffering and your doc isn’t doing anything about it, I’d get a second opinion. Doctors are more conservative than they used to be about tonsillectomy, but if you’ve got a chronic, painful problem, seems to me some doctor somewhere would consider surgery, or at least be able to treat the problem. As for a website, do a search on “tonsils” or “health” - that should get you lots of sites.
I am a Navy Brat. While living in Iceland I had Strep Throat Every month. The Navy would not take my tonsils out. Once my Dad retired and we moved back to Idaho my tonsils got inflamed one more time and they took them out. I was 17 at the time. They were as big as a walnut. In fact they looked just like a walnut. With the indentions and all. I had kept them in a jar until my Husband made me throw them away.
