Symbol of peace?

I was curious if picture of a rifle with a flower coming out of the barrel would be considered a symbol of peace. I’ve seen the image before and took it to mean that, but I’m not sure. So is it or is it not? What does it mean?

It was a photograph taken at some event in the 1960’s. IIRC a hippie put the flower into the barrel of a National Guardsman’s (or other military type) rifle. If you have to assign meaning to it I suppose the meaning would be “make love, not war.” It’s a picture. It means whatever you want it to mean.

As an unofficial spokesperson on behalf of flowers everywhere, we find it especially disturbing.

First you behead us, and then you place that gory prize in the barrel of a gun?

Hardly a symbol of “peace”

Flower Power! We will crush you with our petals!

(I’m just pollen your leg)…

Hey, it’s you who’s carrying a pistil.

It’s just a natural progression. As Mao said, flower flows from the barrel of a gun.

Actually, it’s a plant’s genitals, not its head.
Think about that the next time you give your wife flowers.

It was in Life magazine. IMO the message was that while the guys with guns were threatening violence, but the protesters were peacefully disagreeing.

If you mean the photo known as Flower Power, it was taken by photographer Bernie Boston at a protest in front of the Pentagon in 1967. It was originally published in the Washington Star.
