President Bashar al-Assad announces he will run for re-election in June.
I understand Bashar al-Assad is favored to win, but some pundits are confident that Bashar al-Assad will hand him a big surprise.

Presumably parts of the country won’t be able to vote due to being in revolt against the government, and/or occupied by nun-raping, baby-killing, heart-eating savages.
Assad hasn’t felt as secure in a long time. He’s bound to win the, er, election and he’s winning the civil war, thanks to Putin. (Oh, and maybe he should send a thank-you card to Obama too.)

Why so?
Pretty obvious I would have thought. For holding off on the missile strikes, which would have considerably weakened him and might even have tipped the balance in the conflict.
I hear it’s a tight race between Bashar al-Assad, Bashar al-Assad, and Bashar al-Assad. But the winner will likely get 90% + of the vote. This is going to be a real nail-biter to watch on election night!!!
I wonder how news of Hillary’s upcoming grandchild will effect the race.
Chelsea is married, right?

Yes, to Bashar al-Assad – you didn’t know that?!
No, I overloaded on the “Governor’s Cute Little Baby” long ago.
[thread enters the zone of that recursive scene in Being John Malkovich only instead of “Malkovich” everybody’s saying “Bashar al-Assad”]
