Why was he taking those drugs?
Was it because of the motorcycle accident? Were they really chemical castration pills?
I can follow all the rest of the movie, even with the lot holes. But, I can’t figure this out.
Yeah, I just got the DVD.

Yes, no, and what a waste of $20.
It’s likely better than a lot of movies you’ve bought
You mean, like the huge gaping hole made by the fact that John was thrown from his motorcycle while doing 80 MPH and was still mostly intact?
As far as I’m concerned, the movie should have been over by about 5 minutes in.
That said, I actually liked the T-X. I thought she made a better Terminator than Arnie did, this time round. And the thing with Arnie putting on the Village People shades was pure gold. Too bad he didn’t keep them on for more than a few moments.
Bah, that’s no plot hole, that’s merely Action Flick Protagonist Physics. It’s the same principle behind why main characters can be thrown through plate glass windows without being filleted, why cars explode with such remarkable frequency, and the way hails of machine gun fire always leave protagonist-sized holes in the bullet pattern.
Conner is taking Phenobarbitol, IIRC, which is a heavy sedative/painkiller. This is why Claire Danes sees the empty bottle and assumes that junkies have broken in to the clinic (this is a problem with vet clinics, people break in to steal ketamine, barbituates and the like).
They were not chemical castration pills, but he was disoriented and confused by the drugs, and she needed to surprise, confuse and distract him.
The thing that bugged me the most was that after the governator tells Claire that she ordered him to kill JC, she doesn’t ask anything else. That was the extent of her curiosity? Didn’t maybe raise any questions? WTF?
LC
The Terminator doesn’t tell her that. He says that he was the one who killed JC in the future, and that she captured him and reprogrammed him to go back in time to save her, JC and the other Lieutenants from being assassinated.
Drastic, I’m strongly tempted to start a thread (quoting you) devoted to “Action Flick Protagonist Physics” – because I really need to get my ire over the “Bourne-Identity-50-foot-fall-through-the-mezzanine-onto-a-marble-floor-without-so-much-as-a-cracked-kneecap-stunt” off my chest.
Bourne understood the gravitivity of the situation, you see.
I guess I just don’t know my narcotics… I had thought that John was trying to stay awake continually, to avoid the nightmares of Judgement Day he has whenever he falls asleep. But I suppose a sedative wouldn’t work too well for that. I did at least recognize that phenobarbitol isn’t used to chemically neuter dogs.
I don’t think that Ahnold was programmed to protect the other lieutenants, either, except possibly incidentally. He sure doesn’t make any effort on their behalf, anyway, even when he has complete control of the John/Claire situation (both of them locked in the back of the truck).
And Lucki, really, what more is there to ask? And how quickly do you really expect her to assimilate the situation?
