Tabbed browsing in Windows Mozilla

I usually use Linux, and use Mozilla all the time. I love the tabbed browsing feature, and have it set in linux to open links in tabs in the background when I middle click (I use a wheel mouse, so I click the wheel). It’s a great feature.

Due to certian homework needing programs that I only have in Windows, I’m back in this partition for a while, and downloaded Mozilla because I hate IE and I want the tabbed feature. I went directly to my preferences, clicked all the same stuff as before (middle click, open tabs in back, etc), and it still won’t work. The browser goes Back when I middleclick. All the settings that I can find are identical to the ones I use in Linux, but I’m not computersmart enough to figure out what else might be going on. My guess is that its a Windows setting that needs to be changed, but going to ControlPanel>Mouse and trying to set the scroll button to "middle click"doesn’t work, since it’s not even an option.

Anyone have any ideas?

BTW - I’m using Win98, and, not that I think it matters, a Celeron400.

Make sure you unchecked the option under Tabbed Browsing that says “hide the tab bar when only one tab is open.” I had trouble using the tabs until I did that.

I have noticed that Netscape 6.2 and Mozilla seem to share preferences files and bookmarks. Things can get screwed up if you use both of them (at least for me). It should be OK if you uninstall 6.2 or maybe even an earlier version of Netscape.

Lastly, are you sure you have Mozilla 0.9.9? I don’t think tabs were in earlier versions.

Good luck
