Taco Bell and Chalupas

SeaDiver, I’ll BUY a pressure cooker if it’s for tamales!

I just wanted to mention that I’m eating a chalupa as I type this. Yummy.

Also, on the way home, I noticed a sign that said: “Authentic Mexican Cuisine. Home of the world’s best chili verde. We challenge you to buy a plate”
What a great hook: We challenge you. Heheh, i almost went in to get a plate!

Hey! Tech chick and seadiver! I am still stuck in NM! But (get this, tech chick) I am moving to Colorado Springs in April!
Yeah, the GC here is awesome, but taco bell is rank. I think they should go out of business. Really, for there to be an urban legen about something there has to be a nugget of truth in it. And the legend in question is the one that a lady ate their and a week later had a pustule in her inner cheek that was filled with little roaches. This was because she ate some beans with roach eggs in them. While I know this is untrue, it still seems likely that this could happen, as referenced by things like this
quote
** I worked at Taco Bell for about 6 months in High School. You want to know about the taste? Well, I can recall one instance when our walk in fridge broke down. All the meat turned brown, but did we throw it away? Nope, we cooked that nasty meat anyway! Oh yeah, then there was the time someone spilled a whole vat of beans on the floor and…yep, scooped em up. I have personal experience winging cockroaches with a chef’s knife at about a 10 foot range on the back wall of the store. Then there was the time someone had sex in the walk-in…**
Stuff like has to be true, I have heard this from many people that work or have worked there. I never eat there, it smells like my crotch after the gym. Sure, it’s clean, but sweaty and pungent. Do you really want eat somewhere that smells like that?
P.S. I hope I don’t get sued.

Whereabouts are you in the bay area? We often have Mexican feast nights.

Sea, you poor soul. Do you know how to make green chili? I think i just made my email address available, so if you want a recipe I have one that is direct from Santa Fe! Also, in a pinch you can subsitute fresh roasted peppers with Bueno Green Chili’s from the frozen isle.

Smick, keep me updated on your arrival, I will try to help you with the good things in this city. Course it depends on what you like, but willing to help out none-the-less.

As for Taco Bell, hey for a $3 lunch it works fer me…but when I am in the mood for the real stuff, I either cook it myself or go to one of the good local restaurants

I would settle for the frozen Bueno stuff any day of the week! The only peppers I can find here on a regular basis (fresh)are jalapenos, serranos, and chiles de arbol. I can get canned chipotles, but there isn’t anything that comes close to that roasted Hatch chile out here. Like I said, sometimes people send it to me. I think I need to start growing my own or mail-ordering it from specialty stores. If you know a place where I could find some green chile (or a half-decent substitute) in California, I’ll owe you one!

Techchick,
Yeah, you can get body fuel from Taco Bell for $3. But near where I work there is a Chinese takeout right next to the Taco Bell. Entree, rice and/or noodles, egg roll and a drink for $3.16 including tax. With a choice like that, I’ll go Chinese every time.

Chef Troy:

I’ve got to admit, I was thinking about you last night as I was preparing dinner (rainbow trout baked with leeks, fennel, tomato, and tarragon).

Specifically, that you and UncleBeer and I should collaborate on a SDMB cookbook!
Recipe #1:

a) Drink one (1) six-pack Labatts Blue
b) Take a leek…

SeaDiver, I live in Santa Rosa. I’d love a Mexican feast! All my mexican relatives live down in San Diego, so I haven’t had one for ages.

Also, you might want to check out www.sfherb.com for any dried chilis, herbs or spices you might want. I order from them all the time and their goods are inexpensive and very high quality.
