I have had to deal with a salesman from a different perspective than Satan’s and I think part of the selling situation where Satan found himself lying is created by the salesmen to keep you from taking a graceful exit.
In my situation, I went to a dealer, knowing what vehicle I wanted and already pre-approved for a loan by my credit union. After having waded through the price negotiations where tactics like “checking with the manager” repeatedly tried to wear me down, we agreed on a price and I was ready to buy only to find out they now wanted me to fill out a loan application. Since I had told them I was already pre-approved for a loan and even showed them the pre-approval letter, I balked at filling the loan application out, and it was only when I was getting up to walk out on the deal that they relented. Despite this when I came in to pay for the car with the check from my credit union and pick the car up, they had somehow processed a loan application on their own through the dealership’s loan company and I had to yet again get ready to walk out of the dealership before they relented and let me pay for the car with the check I brought. If I hadn’t already gotten the check from the credit union and had my whole family psyched about getting the car I would have nixed the whole deal.
Some salespeople will deal with you straightforwardly and honestly, but others will use different kinds of pressure tactics to put you at a disadvantage to control the situation and often you have to be rude or walk out to change the course of the sales process.
