Take down manhattan's "politics in GQ" sticky.

I have suggested before that manhattan’s two stickies be combined into one, solely because of the number of freaking stickies at the top of the forum. Go into the Couple things sticky, edit the title to “Few things” and add the word “politics”, and then transplant the two sentences from (Heh.) to it. Seems common sensical to reduce sticky clutter but my suggestion has been met with resounding silence.

I’m currently working on a consolidation of the GQ rules. That will be part of it.
today’s poster is by and large much more sensitive – many are oversensitive and incredibly thin skinned – and very quick to take offense and to even read injury and abusive intent into situations where none was ever intended.
You can expect a Pit thread on this within the day, I’m sure.

This is a joke, right?

Manny’s tough stance on things and people was very useful in its day but that day has passed; today’s poster is by and large much more sensitive – many are oversensitive and incredibly thin skinned – and very quick to take offense and to even read injury and abusive intent into situations where none was ever intended.

While Manny would have told the offenderati to get bent, get a life, get over themselves, today’s moderators on this board do not have that as an option.

Today’s poster adapts to the environment.

I do miss manhattan. Yes, he was abrasive. And yes, as a poster, he declined into one of those disgusting right-wingers who insists that if you disagree with his line you are “objectively pro-terrorism”. He would have been a crap mod in GD. But he was fucking great in GQ.

[sub]I know I’ve been banging on about manhattan. This should not be taken to mean that I don’t think there are both current and former moderators who been as good. I do. [/sub]

[ed.] Oh, and sorry about the GFactor business. That was poor.[/]

No. What the hell makes you think it’s a joke?

And this place is poorer for it.

Tough shit for them. If they all left it would be a good thing. The rest could adapt or just not post loads of stupid shit in GQ in the first place.

Are you sure that’s what changed and it’s just the the posters who are overly-sensitive? Or do you think that maybe that comment is a little ironic?

And besides, why should criticism of mod decisions be a consideration? It’s a bit of a wash, isn’t it? You know, damned if you do damned if you don’t? Nothing is ever good enough for us kids. Might as well make GQ better if we are all going to complain either way.

Why should it be? I miss manhattan, too. I didn’t always agree with him, but I thought he was a fine moderator.

Why? What exactly is going to happen if you or another mod told an offenderati to go get fucked? They might write a letter to Creative Loafing threatening to take their $15 elsewhere? So what?

Said the person who suspended somebody for 30 days just for calling a moderator a name in the pit.

When we as posters stopped being allowed to call moderators names, you as moderators gave up the right to be rude.

The new GQ rules are posted. I am really pleased. Especially with Rule 1:

This is perfect. Thanks.
