Take Five - Pakistan style. You have *got* to see this.

Sachal Studio in Lahore has taken Dave Brubeck’s clasic Take Five and treated it with traditional South Asian instruments and a western classical arrangement, to produce this absolutely stunning piece of fusion.

I can’t stop playing it. It’s just so incredibly brilliant - they’re all virtuosos, but the tabla player is unbelievable - yet also listenable.

Enjoy!

Whoa. That’s outstanding. Thanks.

Glad you appreciated it. I’ve been trying to find out exactly what Sachal Studios is, apart from a studio, but there’s no real info I can find.

That’s wonderful! Thank you for posting it.

Wow. That’s probably a better arrangement than the original. And I have the original on vinyl. Stunning sound quality, too.

I haven’t sat down and listened to this yet, but for those who do like it, it’s available on iTunes. The artist is the Sachal Studios Orchestra, and the album is called Jazz Interpretations of Jazz Standards and Bossa Nova. (An English copy editor should have been consulted I guess.) They do Girl from Ipanema, which I believe is required by law. The cover of Take Five is also available as a single.

Nice. I liked the camera angles, too.

It’s actually called (according to the album cover):
Sachal Jazz
Interpretations of Jazz Standards and Bossa Nova

I don’t understand why so many people hate the sitar. That was freakin’ awesome!

Baboo plays the cello, too? (2:10)

Great stuff. Thanks for the link.

Fantastic!

I loved it - especially the tabla! I wondered what he was going to do with the Morello solo!

Thanks for posting this very interesting clip.

Q

Needs more cowbell.

My iPod has a different opinion, but I’ll fix it later.

I have always preferred Coke Studio. Bigger budget, and better (read traditional tracks).

Nice! Was already my favourite jazz piece.

Very nice.

The Twelve Girls Band’s versionon traditional Chinese instruments is pretty nice, too. I think it came sooner, actually.

No way!

But it is pretty damned cool. It’s not going to replace Dave Brubeck in my rotation (I’m not a fan of the strings in this arrangement), but expert work all around.
