In response to the two recent “lock up grampa” threads.
Well, kind of.
Here’s what I think I’ll do to assure my comfort in my retirement and not get in the way of the youngsters out there.
First, I’ll pre pay and arrange for my own funeral.
Then I’m going to liquidate all my assets, including life insurance, and buy one of those annuities that pay me a stipend (with cost of living clause) for the rest of my life, but that forfeits upon my death.
Nada for my relatives, sorry.
That way, I’ll be comfortable for the rest of my life. And maybe be able to afford a driver to haul my worthless old butt around. At my whim.
Pretty cool, huh?
So, do you young people who are worried about your grandparents being a danger to society and themselves see this as a viable solution? Tell them about it, ok?
Peace,
mangeorge
Sheesh mangeorge, like none of us are on your side
But hey, I think the problem is they can’t all do that. I’d be for it. While we’re at it we can get rid of social security, too. At least to the effect that if you don’t want to collect you don’t have to pay.
But that’s a hijack.
What we need is some sort of aggressive-growth bond, mutuals, or some shit that parents can buy into when the child is born. Maybe, you know, two-hundred bucks or something at a decent 6% interest rate. By the time that puppy retires there should be some change in there. And since it is already started no harm would come to contribute to it anyway. So long as none of it is removed until after retirement it should be tax free, too. It’d be like a super Roth IRA.
Just my opinion.
I used to think that everyone should be required to pay a percentage of their income to their parents - take it straight out of their paychecks. Maybe have it payed into a trust fund until the parents reach retirement age. This would provide more security for many of our senior citizens, and it would encourage parents to make sure their kids do good in school. 8^)
That would insure a lot of kids wouldn’t it? Wouldn’t want to be childless in such a country. Of course, I’d bet there would be a MUCH better public education system. Instead of deadbeat dads we’d have deadbeat kids refusing to pay parental support.
Forget all that social security and ira poop.
Do you really want grandma and grandpa spending your inheritance? And why should any old folks even want life insurance?
Peace,
mangeorge
