Taleban and Women

UN runs bakeries that are managed and staffed by women in Kabul the Afghan capital. They sell bread at subsidized prices. The Taleban have ordered them to close down.

How do they support these actions morally? I know not all Muslims share the beliefs that the Taleban is using to conduct this war on women; I worked with a woman who covered her hair and was a devout Muslim. What is the difference that drives the Taleban to demand that women not work outside the home?

Does anyone here thing they are right? If so why?

They don’t even allow widows to work! It’s one thing to require women with male relatives to be indoors or with them at all times, and not to work; I heartily disagree, and think it’s a human rights violation. But when there’s a widow with children, and she’s not allowed to work or even leave the apartment, that’s a death sentence, and nothing less. Ironically, many of the widows became so when their husbands were killed in the war waged by the Taleban…
