I used to drive a 61 Chevy Impala. I was toodling down a rural highway when the state patrol pulled me over. When he got to my car, he literally rocked back on his heels. He absolutely did not expect to find a middle aged white woman driving an old beater Chevy. He told me I was going 2 mph over the speed limit and to watch it, then sent me on my way.
Late one Tuesday night I was pulled over by a local cop. He told me that one headlight was out. I said that I didn’t know, and that I was an election judge bringing ballots from my precinct down to the courthouse (it was election day). He looked in the back of the car, saw the ballot box, and told me, “They’re waiting for those, get down there,” as he walked away Not only did I not get a ticket, or be hassled otherwise for what was an obvious pretext stop, I probably could have gotten a police escort if I’d asked.
Instead I got chewed out at the courthouse for being the last precinct to report results. I blamed the Man for keeping me down.
I live in a part of the US where it is well over 85% white. Somehow the 15% minorities have figured out how to get past the checkpoints or dig under the walls. As such if I speed and get pulled over, I typically get a ticket. When I attempt convince my Uber driver to take me to buy crack, they just normally pull over and make me get out. When I get violently drunk and beat up my wife and attack people in neighboring campsites, I get shot if I resist.
