The Taliban can’t show Sandler movies or anyhting else. TV has already been banned. This was covered in an episode of Michael Moore’s The Awful Truth.
This isn’t the greatest cite in the world, but I have read a Nasr-ed-Din Hodja story that revolved around how dogs are unclean. Maybe that’s covered under the Sharia. Could just even be folk wisdom.
“Ayatollah Khomeini again, “Eleven things are unclean: urine, excrement, sperm, blood, a dog, a pig, bones, a non-Muslim man and woman, wine, beer, and the perspiration of a camel that eats filth”.”
If the Ayotollah says it, it’s good enough for me.
My information was originally second hand from a Muslim friend with extensive knowledge in subsidiary scholarship. Just because I can’t spell worth jack, doesn’t mean I’m not right.
Umm… Slortar? You attributed the anti-dog idea to the “Koran.” When I pointed out that the Qur’ân says nothing of the sort, you quoted Khomeini. Isn’t that a non sequitur?
Seems like some people have only a vague idea of what the Qur’ân really is. It is just one specific text, not the whole corpus of commentaries on Islamic jurisprudence.
Wouldn’t that lead to a certain amount of improper groping? Or perhaps women would then only be permitted to stand quietly in the corner. Or be lead about on a leash by a male relative.
The Sunni Taliban probably don’t care what the Shi’ite Ayatollah Khomeini said about dogs, no. However, this hard-line Sunni site is also not real big on dogs. (Note that their answer seems to derive exclusively from hadiths, and not from the Qur’an.) I think it’s safe to say the Taliban are probably not big dog lovers.
Podkayne: Yeah, I think you’ve got the idea. But it’s to keep the women safe, you see.
