Sometimes a joke is just a joke.
I think it’s OK. It’s a word. Words can have different meanings depending on context. In some contexts “Gay” means “Homosexual”. I others it means “Lame” or “Crap”. Originally it meant “Bright and colourful and happy”.
Certain minority groups don’t have a monopoly on the language, and personally I think there’s an element of thoughtcrime in objecting to the use of the word “gay” to deride things.
As for Messrs. Pitt, Clooney, and Damon- I think it’s a funny “in-joke” and is intended to be read in that context. They’re all obviously good mates and mates joke about that sort of thing all the time. It’s refreshing to see respected actors having a laugh at themselves about their public perceptions, IMHO.
Seriously. It may not be all that PC or culturally sensitive, but one of the strongest indicators of being a confident heterosexual man is that you can joke among friends about being gay. I can see, however, that taken out of the joking among friends context (as in an interview) it becomes a little more difficult to swallow.
So your feeling is that he told her that at the beginning and she signed on…?
I deeply doubt that. For so many reasons.
It’s just a guy busting on a buddy of his. Not everything in the world is deep, kids.
