Your hair is spectacular. You should not cut it.
I’ll second that. I think your hair looks good, and if you’re happy with it, you should leave it as is. However, I have fairly similar hair to yours that I got cut from almost waist-length to just about the bottom of my shoulder blades a couple of months ago, and I couldn’t be happier with the result. It’s still long, but it’s much, much easier to take care of and quite a bit lighter. It also has some shape and style now (thanks to the layers I also got), instead of just being there in this big overwhelming mass.
Your hair is lovely the way it is, I would say don’t cut it, but obviously it’s your choice!!!
Tip: try a headband, or combs, to keep your bangs out of your face.
twicks, who’s grown out bangs a half dozen times or so.
Don’t go any shorter than shoulder length at first - if you regret it, you’re stuck with it until it grows, which will seem like a friggin eternity
(voice of experience) :smack:
I’ve had both very long, medium long (as it is now) and very very short - as in an inch-long all over (this looked great, btw - I’d have it done again if I could lose some weight, think very short hair only suits the waif-like). All styles have their merits.
Best advice I can give is to buy Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey (can be found on Amazon), read it, and follow the sage advice therein for a few months. Since I did, my long, curly hair is in better condition than ever, needs about a quarter of the products and takes about a tenth of the styling time. If after that it’s still driving you crazy, get it chopped - it’s very liberating!
The Locks of Love minimum is 10 inches . You could give that much and still have practically shoulder-length hair; that’s what I did. I say go for it.
Okay, I have many things to say–but don’t I always?
-
I remember the first time we met, your hair wasn’t that long, and it was very flattering.
-
Do you remember me crying over my haircut in May or so? shudder
-
resisting “Hi, Opal” temptation If you decide to cut it, do so in stages–no shorter than the shoulderblades, at first.
-
Force Neil to give you an opinion, rather than “it’s your hair.”
I’m done now. Good luck!
I am the long-suffering husband in question from the OP.
sigh
Once upon a time, when I met my lovely wife, she had roughly shoulder length hair. I believe that before she decided to grow it out, she had at least 1 cut that was very close to a ‘bob.’ Anyway, as you can see, she is a very beautiful woman. And I think that she has very nice hair, whatever the length. Actually, the most I’ve ever asked of her is to grow out her bangs and move out of the 80’s.
In any case,I think that she stresses too much about it, and I’ll be happy whatever she does. My only concern is that she’ll do something she won’t be happy with. But as has been said, it will grow out.
Of course, once we go to our next SCA event, and she’s surrounded by women that would kill to have her hair…I imagine she’ll put it off again.
-stonebow, who thinks that is is really unfair since he has been directed to grow out his hair, and now sports a ponytail for the first time in his life like some sort of damn hippie
PS- Abbie Carmichael- I’m sorry, but I can’t disagree more with you on the older women/short hair issue. I understand it’s a pain to manage longer hair, but I don’t understand what possesses older women to either go for a crew-cut or Brillo-pad perm, as seems the norm around here.
Yer talkin’ to the wrong lady - I’ve got short hair now, and I love it. I’d go for cutting it. Yes, it’s nervewracking, and yes, you’ll be apprehensive, but go for it. It’ll be a fun change, and if you don’t like it, it will always grow back, I promise. Do it!
Says Snicks, who’s currently considering growing hers out again, but knows that that’ll take a good, long time.
If I was your husband I would have put it in the vows, right after honor. “Never cut my hair.” Cutting your hair short should be grounds for a divorce. And yes thats what I tell my wife whenever she starts talking about a hair cut.
I believe Locks of Love only takes “virgin” hair that has never been chemically treated (i.e. coloured or permed).
I think you have beautiful hair but it looks like it’s kind of taking over! From the pictures (and correct me if I’m wrong), it looks like you have it short in the front and then all one length everywhere else?
What about trying a more layered style … with maybe angled layers in the front? It could get rid of a bit of the length and a lot of the bulk. It would be a less drastic change for you…?
I have very fine hair, but lots of it, and it’s mostly curly but sometimes wavy and some parts are straight - so I KNOW hair dilemmas - even though most hairdressers are reluctant to layer it because they think it will add bulk, when it’s done properly, it really tames it and lets the waves and curls do their thing without looking like I’m ALL hair.
Good luck …
Your hair is gorgeous! I say don’t cut it, but then, I don’t have to take care of it. Short hair is a lot easier to take care of, but it will never have (for me) the stunning impact of long, beautiful hair like yours.
I think your hair is very pretty the way it is, but it would be more stylish to have it just below the shoulders. That way it would still be long, but it would be easier to maintain. Long hair is pretty, but too long of hair looks a bit old-fashioned.
I’m so jealous though, my hair is thin and would does not look good past my shoulders. I always try, but as soon as it gets long, I can’t handle it and trim it back.
Whatever you do, I’m sure it will be gorgeous.
Nooooooo, don’t cut it! It’s beautiful. Get a trim, like maybe 2 inches off, and it’ll be as good as new.
My whole adulthood, people have been bugging me to cut my hair. I tell them, I will never ever cut it. I will be one of those old grandmas with long silver hair in a bun.
Too many women have short hair nowadays… I think long hair is the most feminine thing there is. Keep it!
Been there, done that. My hair was (when wet) at my tailbone. When dry it curled to my waist. With LilMiss, it was a pain. She would constantly get snarled in my hair, hair would get caught in doors, etc.
About 7 years ago (I think?) I had it all whacked off. I left the stylist with hair that was no more than 2", all curly spiky. I loved it. No more spending an hour to comb through it. No more primping. Going from 10 minutes just to wash and condition my hair with tons of shampoo and conditioner to a one minute scrub and go.
Since that initial haircut, I have let it grow to shoulder length. I couldn’t stand it. Due to the curliness, my choice was to spend time styling it, or wearing headbands. Off it went again.
I can’t say DO IT! or not, but do know that the first cut is painful. The piece of long, beautiful tress now lying on the floor will make you tear up. The air on your neck will feel odd (even if you wear your hair up). Your head will feel 10 pound lighter. You will cry, wondering WHY DID YOU DO THIS!
But then… when people see your face, not your hair? When you can sit without adjusting your mane? When styling is minutes? You’ll like it.
I’ve had short hair since I could convince my mom to let me cut it when I was eight.
It’s longer than it’s been in years right now.
I have wavy hair. If I don’t keep it short, it drives me up a wall.
Crap. I meant to say: I agree with most posters. Cut it to your shoulderblades or so. If you hate it, there’s no nasty “in between” stage like with super short hair, and if you’re feeling brave later, you can cut shorter.
You people are evil.
Don’t cut your hair.
Exactly what Abbie said. Seeing more of that pretty face could only be a good thing, and it looks like you have the kind of hair that would look good shorter (but I’d vote for just under chin length.)
