Talk to your insurance company, because the damage may be covered. Mine was; I did have to pay up front but was reimbursed minus the deductible. It doesn’t hurt to ask.
You should also see if you can negotiate a reduction in your payments for having a metal roof. They’re more durable so that means it’s less likely you’ll need to file a claim.
For any kind of roofing you should go directly to a roofing contractor and avoid sales agencies that are just taking an extra commission on the job. Unless you’re doing a low cost job with something laid on top of the existing shingles you might as well add some insulation. I have to get our roof done and I’m going to add 1 1/2" of insulation and use metal panels on top of that. The added insulation will cut out a lot of the added sound from rain.
If you want to break the bank you go with a copper roof. It will last for centuries and keep the classic look of your home, but it costs a lot more than other roofing materials.
