After looking at a few Guiness Books, it seems to me that all of the people who have held records on height have had problems with their pituarity gland (such as a tumor on it). Does anyone know how tall the tallest person without pituitary gland problems is(was)?
Well my old Guinness Book (1986) lists the people with medically verified heights of 8 feet and up and they all have some sort of pituitary situation or severe medical problems going on, so lacking any other info I’d hazard a guess that the tallest “normal” person would be less than 8 feet.
How much less? Tougher to say but as an example, hoopster Yao Ming is obviously a healthy, athletic guy and he’s a hair over 7’ 6". Dunno about his pituitary but unlike many giants he doesn’t look to be acromegalic, have trouble moving around, break a hip when he falls down, etc.
So that helps narrow down the range - I’ll bet it’s between 7’ 6" and 8’ 0".
