Talybont : The Gentle Giant Appreciation Thread

I couldn’t really call them obscure; probably overlooked would be the more correct word. But I’ve been a fan of Gentle Giant since Three Friends came out. To my mind they made some of the best, quirkiest, most inventive music of the late 70’s and early 80’s. Their two best known albums came out on CBS before they were traded, but when they signed with Capitol they really hit their stride with The Power and the Glory and Free Hand. I don’t think I’ve ever heard any other music that’s comparable to it.

Any other fans out there?

Hmmm … guess not.

Well, can’t say I’m a fan, I only own three albums, 3 Friends and two live ones. But the only reason I don’t have more it’s because they’re so short they seem almost like a waste of money. Why not two albums per CD like the Beach Boys have?

I agree they’re great. Complex, dissonant pop music that’s more complicated and interesting than 90% prog out there.
