Tampa/St. Pete folks: I-275--what was the deal 1/3/3?

OK, I was on my way back from Florida, stopping in St. Pete for a break. After I finished, I was unable to get back onto 275 Northbound–a cop was blocking the on-ramp.

I go to the next on-ramp. No good. Another cop.

I had to go several miles before I found an on-ramp that wasn’t blocked.

What was going on? (Time was about 3:30 pm, Friday afternoon.)

There was a car chase and an officer got hit by a car, I think. I’ll check the online St. Pete times to be certain, but I do recall reading that.
