TAR 5/5: Finale

I meant that if there were only three of each country outlined in the ballpit then the first team there would have the easiest time while the last team would have a terrible time. I wonder if they pull the last team after the first two come in.

I’ve been to all the places, except Mount Vernon, in the DC area. The Nats park one was great, though I wonder why no one figured out to just drop the ball instead of lobbing it, would have made it much easier for the catcher.

Because apparently a PhD in pharmacology doesn’t cover basic physics. And to be fair - when you’re throwing to someone at the same altitude as you and want to make the catch as easy as possible, you lob it so they have plenty of time to get their hand in place. But yeah, for this, a lob just made the ball faster when it hit your target’s glove, as well as making the throw less repeatable.

Rebecca and Adam

He was called Hellboy because of those ridiculous “horns” of hair.

I was looking at his Wiki page, I didn’t know he played for the Caps a few years ago. All of those places are pretty well known in the area as well, 1100 Pennsylvania is the Old Post Office. I knew what it was from just the address. I can’t imagine any cabbie getting lost with those places.

The “Secret Service” guys at the Obama photo op - “Please observe decorum”, yeah, while we go to a tourist trap photo shop in a mall.

Overall, I’m pleased with this season. The final three were all deserving and the Country Singers appropriately missed out in the finals because they were the weakest team. I’m happy they gave us an update on the father and son. I didn’t care for how emotional the dad was, but that was a really unfortunately break for them.

I liked the hockey players best pretty much the whole way. I didn’t care for the ego of the pharmacist (but kudos for being beautiful and actually having a brain. She did defy the stereotype, even if she had an ego about it).

I agree that teams shouldn’t be allowed to consult notes during the task. It punishes the ability to recall things. That said, I also dislike the ‘lottery shot’ process where teams are left to guessing things over and over, so I don’t know what I want.

They’re a shoo-in to at least be invited to be on the next Unfinished Business season. Whether the dad will be willing to risk what will probably be a not-long-healed injury when that comes around again is iffy. But they are almost certainly going to get an invite.

Oh! I actually forgot one of my favorite moments of last night, and it was an Amazing Editors moment…Ride of the Valkyries during the ball drop. Brilliant!

Who knows if they’ll do another Unfinished Business season. I thought their post-race interview was interesting; dad went a whole ten seconds without mentioning he’d had cancer.

Bates & Anthony were definitely the strongest team (except for possibly Dave & Connor) but it was a weak season of contestants. Mona & Beth and Caroline & Jen could easily be a 7th-place team in a different season.

And yeah, I think the hate for Max & Katie is because of how arrogant they were. Not only to each other (constantly blaming the other person, though I think Katie was obviously the smarter of the two, even if it doesn’t help to be voicing that) but also to others (as Robot Arm pointed out, Max couldn’t resist asking Mona & Beth how it felt to arrive in Edinburgh only to see some of the cars missing). They came off as seeing themselves as a “power couple” with all the arrogance implied in that, and everything else supported that. I was somewhat amused that they actually said they saw themselves as another Major Dave & Rachel team, only to be surprised when they weren’t consistently winning legs at the start.

I hope Dave and Connor get a chance to come back. I loved their attitude.
