Tastless threads against SDMB rules?

You two are so going to hell for this. Save me a seat there

Holocaust? More like LOLOCAUST, am I right?

I guess so, since you actually did make me laugh out loud.

Maybe I’m out of date - wouldn’t be the first time - but isn’t there a general “two-clicks-distance” rule for anything that might not be work-safe? And wouldn’t some of those images, at least, fall into that category? If I’m right, that would make the closure entirely justified.

(To be honest, I’m having a hard time working up any outrage over it if it wasn’t … “too stupid to live” sums up that particular thread nicely, I think.)

Wow… got anger issues much Cosmic?

Here’s some friendly advice.

Ooo, you’re so cute when you’re all mad and self-righteous! I guess since I didn’t agree with you that makes me wrong, huh, cupcake?

3 or 4 of the last posts before it was closed.

Thank you.

And Merkwurdigliebe…

I think youy have a legitimate beef.

Here’s an idea, instead of being such a pussy about it, why don’t you just stop reading the thread?

And Baker, it’s just always typical. Anytime anyone decides to criticize anything about the SDMB a certain number of people can be guaranteed to come to it’s defense regardless of how fucking lame it is. This is an example of pretty fucking lame moderation, and you have managed to show just how much you like to suck the mods’ cocks. You act like it’s such a hard job being a mod. Trust me, it’s not, because the offenderati like CosmicRelief just CAN’T STAND BEING MADE TO LOOK AT BAD THREADS. And yes, I would shout the point if we were in the same room because nobody is making anyone fucking look.

So being a mod is essentially just appeasing a bunch of fucking useless easily-offended fucks. I’ve never felt the need to report a post on the SDMB because I know that I’m not chained to my seat with my eyes pried open.

And for the record, my blingee was Stephen Hawking, and I didn’t find the Holocaust jokes funny. I just thought there would be funnier stuff. See I don’t try to impose my morality / taste / whatever on anyone else.

Yet every time we have a thread about shit that sucks here at the SDMB you’ll see “Well just leave then” or “It’s really hard to run a message board” :frowning: from know-nothing twits like yourself who really don’t have a fucking leg to stand on. It’s just like when people give you this argument:

“If it were really so easy to run a message board, I’m sure they would do it better guys, give the fellas a break! It’s not easy”

The truth is that while it might not be easy, a shit-ton of other message boards are out there and do it better for free. Just like being a mod isn’t difficult, SkipMagic just decides to impose his morality and taste on the rest of the board. At some point you have to stop listening to the fucking offenderati because they will whine about anything.

Merkwurdigliebe, it’s a matter of signal to noise. Too much crap, and the board suffers.

Your tasteless holocaust humor has offended me.

snaps fingers

Garçon, close this thread now.

It never ceases to amaze me how posters like the OP are offended when something doesn’t go their way on the boards. They don’t realize they’re exhibiting just as much self-righteous bigotry of taste. I can only imagine how many slapdowns they would administer if they were a mod, and not a poster.

But it’s fun to listen to the OP rant. It’s like a small child stamping their feet and holding their breath! I hope this thread isn’t closed…after all, we do need a wide range of opinions on the board, don’t we?

Wow, you really are that useless…

I think I’ve been consistently clear in stating that I think taste is subjective from person to person, therefore no thread should be closed on taste alone. I think I remember saying that I agreed that it was tasteless as well. I don’t find the holocaust jokes funny, nor did I want to see more of them, but I would have prefered to see more jokes like the ones before it. I think it’s childish to expect people to close down threads you don’t like. You know what I do in real life when someone says something I don’t like? I walk away, I stop listening, etc.

Nobody’s forcing anyone to read anything here. It’s not a valid argument to say that if I were a mod I’d be closing down threads I didn’t like, because that’s not the attitude that I think should be taken. I agree that it was tasteless, but I don’t think that such a thread should be closed, see the difference?

There are appropriate channels for dealing with stuff in bad taste. There was a pitting of the guy who did the thing with the vulture and the starving kid. It was quite lame too. The point being that there’s plenty of other terrible threads, yet I have no problem with them because

I DON’T FUCKING READ THEM.

I also do this with the rest of the Internet. It’s quite effective really

The truth is that you have shitty taste and it’s been given the beat-down it deserves. Whenever the print of the jackboot on your forehead stings, think of me and howl in impotent rage. Eat a bowl of dicks, you whiny-ass loser.

  • does happy dance *

Where’s he gonna get a whole bowl of Cosmic Reliefs this time of night? Is there a store?

You’re right. I’m done with this example of self-important whinging, for example.

Apparently you don’t know how to read…

Now apply that to the SDMB. When persons with something better than mush mellons between their ears happen upon crap like those holocaust bling posts, they move to another site, rather than sticking around and contributing. When persons wth the maturity of a masturbating monkey come upon such crap, they stick around. The SDMB will move in one diretion or another based on the posts on the boards. Post true crap, and expect the readership to move in the direction of crappers.

Being as the thread in question was devoid of any content other than a bunch of clowns pissing around (and yeah, I laughed at some of the images but left before people starting blinging Holocaust pix), I’m not going to shed any tears over its closure. Show me some sort of actual merit it may have had, and maybe I’ll rethink my position, but I think the bar is set pretty high for that one.

99% of MPSIMS threads would be gone if they were required to display some sort of “merit” to justify their existence - beyond a giggle or two.

A little explanation would be nice, ie:

“This thread, and specifically these [x, y. z] posts, violate Board Rule XXX, and I’m shutting this thread down.” - SkipMagic

AFAIK, there’s no rule that says “threads in poor taste will be shut down”, and if there isn’t, the thread shouldn’t have been shut down (although maybe we should have a rule about that henceforth).
