When did we stop having to put tax stamps on checks?
When did we ever have to put tax stamps on checks? Can you give some more information about this?
I’ve been searching, trying to find out what Jeffro is talking about. No such luck.
A little help, Jeffro, if you please?

There was a time in the US when revenue stamps had to be attached to legal documents, such as warranty deeds, but it hasn’t been that way for years.

We did this after the Civil War, but there were no “attached” stamps, rather the paper was inprinted with a stamp declaring the value of the tax.
We did it again after the Spanish American War, to help pay for the war. This time the stamps were afixed to the check.
I think each time it was for about 3-10 years. I’m doing this from memory.
