Yes, Trump dodged taxes, while Clinton and Sanders didn’t. Clinton and Sanders paid taxes; Trump didn’t. Sure, the Democratic candidates did what they could to reduce the amount they paid, but they didn’t reduce it all the way down to zero. One might say that they rolled with the punch, but they still got hit.
“Deception”? Nice choice of words.
As I noted previously in this thread, someone who was planning on running for the Presidency would, or should be, very aware that their returns would be scrutinized, so maybe they’d avoid the more questionable deductions.
The Clinton’s taxes are public. We are all free, as we should be, to see if there are “tax deceptions”. Apparently there is nothing of great interest in there. The Trump’s taxes are hidden away. Apparently there is something of great interest in there.
I see a difference between using the tax code to reduce your Federal income taxes to thirty-something percent as compared to using the tax code to reduce your taxes to zero. I’m not going to run through the thesauraus to find the proper terms that apply to each situation, though.
So, no numbers?
That’s correct, Trump has released no numbers at all pertaining to his taxes, so we simply do not know the details.
Suppose he did. That shouldn’t get him any credit for any other year.
Yeah, but who ever reads his posts. ![]()
In post #7 I quoted the Clintons’ tax burden for 2015. You can look up other years and presidential candidates using the link running coach gave in post #6. We can’t know Trump’s numbers because he won’t release them but the leaked papers suggest he likely paid zero federal taxes for the last 20 years. What more do you want? You certainly can’t expect a bunch of random people on the internet to give you Trump’s tax burden on his boyhood paper route.
Well yes, but I was referring to Trump.
Again, if Trump won’t release his returns where do you expect to get these numbers from?
To answer your question in the OP
We can not tell how much tax Trump has paid, (since he was born, or in any single year for that matter) since he is keeping that information a secret. We cannot tell if he has given a nickel to charities. Trump is keeping all of his information under wraps and hidden.
The few pages that have been given to the media have given us some very good guesses that he paid no federal taxes for 18 years, because Trump used some legal loopholes, available only to very wealthy property developers.
We also know that Trump has made a big deal over the “freeloaders” in the country who pay no federal tax. Which is ironic, to say the least, if Trump in fact paid no federal tax for 18 years.
I guess everyone’s tax filings are public record in the UK? What has Richard Branson paid in taxes since he was born?
Yes, children pay taxes in the US also. When my daughter was professionally acting at 10 we had to file a tax return for her. I would suppose babies who model get to file returns also.
Your posts have an odd mix of being informed in the broadest sense of the controversy about one deduction that Trump took, and not being aware that Trump has completely refused for more than a year to release his tax history despite very great public pressure.
I guess I’m just not sure how you’re familiar with the general issue but not aware that Trump has strongly rejected sharing information with the public about how much in taxes he pays.
IMHO, he has not felt much pressure to release, until maybe recently.
He got a total pass on this from Republicans in the primaries, and still does (although I guess the Republicans are married to him now, so I guess I understand).
He’s under greater scrutiny now that it’s general election, but I still don’t sense that he feels “pressured”. Maybe it’s good acting or maybe he’s oblivious. But I don’t feel the question has been placed front and center until now.
I really feel that, legal tax breaks or not, it will be the sense of indignation in swing voters that will push this forward, or not. Trump’s supporters still don’t care (or won’t care). Clinton’s supporters may care, but he won’t release for them.
