Taxi Haters Rate Drivers Around the World

Story here. The guy featured in the article started the I Hate Taxis website, which helps make those journeys into town from a strange foreign airport just a little easier.

He started the website after a bad experience with a taxi from the Bangkok airport in 2006. We do have some bastard taxi drivers, but they’re a decent lot for the most part. There are many dodgy ones at the airport, but I suspect he may not have queued up for the officially approved airport taxi service.

Here are the best top 3 taxi drivers in my experience

  1. Singapore
  2. London
  3. Vienna

and the worst:

  1. Kuala Lumpur (just take me where I want to go!)
  2. Moscow
  3. Istanbul

No entry for Vientiane, Laos. A few years ago a guy I know was shot by robbers in cahoots with the cab driver he hailed at the airport there, so I guess that’s one in the ‘minus’ column.

Taxis in Japan are very professional. I’ve seen taxi companies there outfit their drivers in spiffy uniforms, complete with white gloves!

Three of us took a taxi once in Changchun, China, the capital of Jilin province, bordering North Korea. One guy was wearing a white shirt, and when we reached our destination and exited the cab, the guy with the white shirt had a solid imprint of the safety belt across his torso. It was that filthy in there.
